I just hope they smarten up and don't price playoff tickets so high that hundreds go unsold like that Anaheim game in '15.

I get that from a business standpoint that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it was embarrassing for a Canadian arena to have multiple full rows of empty seats in a second round playoff game. Especially when there were tens of thousands of wanting fans that would be there if the tickets didn't start at $450 plus fees and taxes.

Conceptually, the relationship between the flames and STH's is partially one of the flames transferring risk to STH's.

The flames sell 41 games up-front, and the STH take the risk of those games over the course of the season. If the flames suck and are out of the playoffs, STH's should be left with games that have very little demand and will lose money on tickets, while the flames have guarenteed revenue for those seats. In contrast, when the flames are good, STHs get the upside. And over the long-run, the STH's should breakeven on selling secondary tickets. And, in return for taking on this risk, STH's are offered two things: (1) better seats within a price point and (2) ROFR on playoffs and ticket renewals.

The problem right now for STH's is that the flames are good, and you can't get anywhere near breakeven on season tickets. Its just not a good value proposition - especially if you have bad seats within a price point.

The problem for the flames is that if enough STH's don't renew tickets, you very quickly turn into a situation that the Ottawa Senators are facing. A lack of a season ticket base translates into 80% capacity and reliance on game day sales. And that in turn makes it less attractive to own season tickets and a vicious cycle begins. So the flames could ignore the secondary market, but they do so at their peril.

My playoff invoice is now posted.

Round 1 Playoff games are 57.8% over Regular season.

Round 2 Playoff games are 84.2% over Regular season.

That is for Greens.

According to my records the 2015 increases were 41% in Round 1 and 64.5% in Round 2.

That's a big increase. Unless the Flames are playing the Oilers first round I don't suspect they will be selling out the playoff games.

In 2015, the price I paid as a season ticket holder for my Red 2's went up 54% from the regular season to Round 1, and jumped every round after that too.

2015 Regular Season Ticket Cost was $108.
2015 Round 1 was $167.

A higher increase than 2015 is certainly disappointing, especially in this economy.

The Oilers paved the way for this. We can blame them.

I suppose they're going as high as they feel the market will bear. Shut out the secondary market.

How long do they usually wait till they release playoff tickets to Non STH's on ticketmaster? Im going to be in Calgary in April and am hoping to take my Wife to her first NHL game with Calgary the playoffs.

Last time around they held lotteries for the right to purchase tickets. As I recall they had something like 100,000 people entered for something like 2,000 tickets. Those prices were higher than STH prices too.

Thanks for the info, Understandable that they are bit higher, just hoping I won't have to pay for overpriced scalped tickets.

In 2015. I was a season ticket holder, and also entered the lottery.
I won and was given the chance to buy for one of the games, it was very slim pickings to choose from....recall only PL and very crappy corner whites were available.

How does everyone who splits season tickets split up playoff games?

This will be our first year with playoffs as season ticket holders. There are two of us who buy 10 games and 4 other who buy 5 games each.

I'm also in the green section. 57.8% is the increase if you include all preseason games. If you take the total season ticket holder price and divide it by the 41 regular season games, it's only a 43.8% increase. Either way the total amounts paid are the same. It's just how I look at it, and is more of an optics point.

I'll place an extremely large wager on this. They'll sell out regardless of who they play. If they continue on past the first round, ticket prices will go up and they'll still sell out. It wasn't a problem in 2015, and won't be one this year.

We have 5 people. Two buy 16 tickets and 3 who buy 10. (We sell the rest.) Because we are all good friends we each get one ticket per round, and the two with 16 tickets alternate who gets the extra ticket. (Assuming 3 home games.)

We also pick our games before hand. In 2015 I picked game 6 as my game. Had the Flames won in 5- I would have lost out on going. However I picked the "better" game.

As a hot house member I was offered the chance to renew early and receive the right to purchase playoff tickets, but haven't received anything yet from the Flames. Disappointed with how big the increase in price is, but I'm not particularly surprised.

I have a game pack and I haven't heard anything yet.

I have green tickets, but my playoff tickets will be in the PL just like every other year.
