After Monday's games

Flames lost

5. Edmonton (29-19-8) 25 ROW, 66 pts--third in the Pacific Division
6. St. Louis (29-22-5) 28 ROW, 63 pts--third in the Central Division
7. Nashville (27-21-8) 25 ROW, 62 pts--fourth in the Central Division
8. Los Angeles (28-23-4) 27 ROW, 60 pts--fourth in the Pacific Division
__________________________________________________

Calgary (28-26-3) 25 ROW, 59 pts--fifth in the Pacific Division
Vancouver (25-25-6) 21 ROW, 56 pts--sixth in the Pacific Division
Dallas (22-25-10) 22 ROW, 54 pts--fifth in the Central Division
Winnipeg (25-29-4) 23 ROW, 54 pts--sixth in the Central Division

Well well, the Oilers downward spiral is happening as teams start closing in on them. Now that is playoff positivity! The 2 Pacific Division teams and 2 Central teams that are ahead of the Oilers won't be listed until they are closer to the pack. The Bhawks are 12 points up on the Blues and the Ducks are 2 points up on the Oilers.

Well. Lose the ones you're supposed to, now means they have to win the ones they aren't supposed to win to maintain that balance. Anaheim, I'm looking at you. 3 of 4 against the Kings also.

Interestingly, as bad as the Oilers have been over their last 10 games, they've only given up 1 point to LA, none to Nashville and have actually gained three points on the Flames. Gaining points on the teams ahead of you is deceptively hard in this era of 3 point games.

They are 6-4 in their last 10. I wouldn't call that bad.

The last 5 however..

Just have to take it one game at a time and get that win in Vancouver.

Hard not to see the schedule and notice we play LA four times and NSH twice still. A few Yuge games there coming up down the stretch.

Going 4-3 in the last 3 seven game segments and then 3-2 in the five game segment, puts the Flames at 89 points. LA is projecting for 88.

The benefit for us is that their ROW is current lower then ours. If we catch them in points then likely we will be ahead because of that.

EDM is right up there with loser points as well. Not a fan of the loser point, never have been. League needs to ditch it. Go back to ties, ditch the shootout as well. 3 on 3 OT will end majority of games.

If:

Monahan scores 30 goals
Johnny scores at >0.75 PPG
Brian Elliott plays like St Louis Elliott
Bennett is a serviceable #3C
The bottom 3 D hold it together

Then they might make it.

If they do this they'll go deep in the playoffs.

This is a playoff team despite bad offense, pathetic defense, mediocre-to-bad goalies, and the horrible start.

Flames now legitimately hold their playoff spot with the Kings losing to Anaheim.

LA would still bump us out if they win the game in hand.

But they can no longer pull ahead of us in points winning their games in hand. It went from them potentially pushing us out 4 points, to just pulling even with us. That's a huge improvement from a few days ago.

Flames absolutely need to take care of their end though, or it means diddly squat.

Taking 3 of 4 from the Kings would do nicely
