As before, Flames can withstand 10 regulation losses and still have a good (>50% chance) to make the playoffs.

Looking at the remaining schedule and by my count only five remaining games are against top ten teams in the NHL.

So for the sake of argument if the Flames lose all five of those, that means they can't drop more than five regulation losses to middling or crappy teams.

The Flames' remaining games for February are looking winnable. If the Flames can make hay this month the playoffs are a real possibility. That said, if they fall below .500 in these games they'll be cooked. I believe they can make it happen. That road trip will be a season decider, in terms of playoff position, and trade deadline activity. I am especially looking forward to the 28th home game against the Kings, hopefully they blow the roof off the Dome.

If Florida can hold on tonight I believe the Flames will continue to hold down a playoff spot for the duration of their break as LA enters their bye week after tonight

The only game from that pool of games listed above that worries me is the one @ Carolina.

Afternoon game in a location where they have trouble winning. Florida also seems to be a gong show for the Flames when they're there.

The Flames have three 7 game segments plus the final 5 game segment left. If they go 4-3 each each of the 3 segments and 3-2 in the five, then it will put them at 89 points. Going by the projected points based on points per game :LA 88, STL 90, NSH 93.

segment 9 - (ARI, PHI, @VAN, @NSH, @TB, @FLA, @CAR)
segment 10 - (LA,(Trade deadline) DET, NYI, MTL, @WPG, PIT, BOS)
segment 11 - (DAL, LA, @WSH, @NSH, @STL, COL, LA)

final 5 games - (SJ, ANA, @ANA, @LA, @SJ)

Man that 11th 7 game segment is going to be a dandy.

Hey San Jose and Anaheim might have already clinched by the end there. Maybe we will get their B squads or B effort?

The Flames are on pace to finish 7th-9th. It is not rocket science if they put a number of consecutive wins 3, 4 on few occasions through Feb-March they should be in good shape. But if they slide on a losing streak of 3-4 games they will finish 9th. Completely up to all of them offence, D, Goaltending and coaching.

The Flames are absolutely going to limp into the playoffs, even with how bad everyone has played so far (barring major injuries ofc).

They've been solidly slightly-above-average since about mid-November, and now that the new system is in place, they will keep their pace.

Things will be even better if Johnny turns up, or Monahan closes out hot, or Bennett finally breaks out.

Well well, the Oilers downward spiral is happening as teams start closing in on them. Now that is playoff positivity! The Bhawks are 12 points up on the Blues and the Ducks are 2 points up on the Oilers.

I was curious as to the pts/game since Nov 15 (the 'we think get get this system' game). Out of the teams making a run for the Playoffs, the Flames have the highest pts/game at 1.20. here is the list:

CGY 1.20
EDM 1.18
STL 1.15
LA 1.15
NSH 1.12
Van 1.08

The rest of the teams are predictably under 1.00 pt/game.

I can see this coming down to game 82 of the season.
