Brouwer's penalty killing was invaluable.

Not understanding the hate for Brouwer. Sure he has been a let down for points production, but he does the little things right. I for one am happy to add his depth and experience for our playoff run.

Brouwer can hit. Can clutch and keep teams real. Like him on the third line though.

If he were making $2M/year, I'm sure most people would agree with you. I think the hate for Brouwer comes from that fact that's he's signed at $4.5M/year for 4 years and is playing on the third line.
I certainly don't hate Brouwer myself, but I wish that cap space would have been used on someone else.

I haven't liked Brouwer for most of the season, but he had been good lately.
I love the Lazar acquisition, and can't wait for him to play - but you don't mess with a good thing. Unless someone has sustained an injury, or has an atrocious game at least, you keep the winning formula. Lazar understands this. Why the rush?

Brouwer did have that scrap with McNabb in the LA game, but as it was mentioned, coming back off a broken hand is probably not wisest thing to go looking for fights.
The points aren't coming for him but I think he has been that important vet presence that has got this team to buy into the system.

A franchise best 10 game win streak.
Let's tinker with the lineup and add a player.

Brouwer has been contributing in the ways you would expect from guys like Stajan and Bouma and nowhere near what is expected of a $4.5 million player. Offensively he's killing that line but as long as the team is winning you have to keep with the formula as players not scoring can contribute in other ways as Brouwer did last night. However if he doesn't come alive in the playoffs I'm really hoping he's left unprotected and taken by Vegas in the expansion draft as that contract is horrendous for what he's bringing this team on a nightly basis.

I don't expect Brouwer to be chucking all the time, but if he's not producing in other phases of the game (and his fancy stats suggest he's not), he needs to step up in other ways...
As well as this team is playing, it can't afford passengers once things start getting tight.
|
That experience was a huge reason why the team brought him on.
Lazar has 6 playoff GP.
Totally different game in the post season. I'm taking the 98 GP guy every time (given similar roles).

He's contributing as much or more than Stajan & Bouma. Stajan is only paid $1.375m less than Brouwer, but Brouwer has 5 more goals and kills all the penalties. Is $1.375m really the magic number which transfers the Whipping-Boy target from Stajan's arse to Brouwer's?
Brouwer has had an outlier season, production wise, but he's the kind of guy we'll need down the stretch run. We're now entering the part of the season where a guy with a Cup ring and a tonne of experience is going to earn his pay check. When some of our younger guys wilt under the pressure in the Playoffs this guy is going to step up and justify his price tag, just like Engelland did a couple of years ago.

C'mon guys, we traded glencross, waived raymond and benched wideman. We needed a new whipping boy.

True. Watching Glencross commentating in a suit made me think Treliving should keep his job for that trade alone.

i would consider putting Lazar in tomorrow. That game yesterday took a lot out of the team and an injection of fresh legs would help.
Is Bouma hurt? He looked a bit gimpy yesterday.

Does he?
Points Production... lackluster
Possession metrics... atrocious
Penalty differential... negative
Age... older
Cap hit... horrible
And I'm still cheesed that he publicly excused the Wild for their 21 hack salute to Johnny's hand. Honestly, at this point I struggle to think of even one redeeming feature.
