I'm not sure this is too much different than one of those lingerie football teams deciding to start wearing t shirts and shorts.
I'd imagine desexualizing this sport would probably be the end of it, and maybe that's the right thing to happen, but it would feel like a hollow victory for the players, I'm sure. Although, I imagine one team switching to shorts and bringing a bunch of attention to this sport isn't going to be its downfall.

Men’s beach handball also exists.

LOL. You know men play too, right?
And beach handball is arguably more legitimate in terms of actual worldwide competition than some sports that are in the Olympics. The softball tournament only has 6 teams, 3 of which (USA, Mexico, and Italy) are almost solely made up of American players.

I confess I really don't know much about beach handball or handball in general. But looking up highlights on Youtube, the women's highlights are getting views in the hundreds of thousands and millions, while the men's maybe get a thousand if they're lucky. I'm guessing the women's side drives whatever revenue is coming in, but who knows! It sure looks like a gimicky sport marketed around sexuality.

There should still be a standard.

I don't think the women would like to dive in the men's uniforms, nor vice versa.

Thong bikinis are back with a vengeance and let me tell you, it is good. People of any gender should be able to choose what they want to wear and no one should say #### about it. In the Olympics context, there should be a choice.

I find it kind of ironic that even your article with the “answer” doesn’t even say what events she is participating in during the Olympics, and has more photos of her posing than actually running. Unless that was part of your point?

I checked out some highlights just to see what the sport was about. It's not a good sport. Indoor handball is pretty bad, beach is even worse.
I suggest they do whatever they can to keep interest, up to and including apparel.

At a fundamental level, Olympic athletes are entertainers. BoLevi's not wrong about that.

Women playing handball in skintight boyshorts is no less sexy than doing it in bikini bottoms.
All I'm sayin'.
