Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2020 - Round 11

It's time for the 8th annual Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking, but at a different time of year and certainly at a different time.

First a look back at previous years can be done with this handy link: Previous Results

Once again vote how you want. There are those that vote 100% on potential, some that vote 100% on the likelihood to see an NHL rink, others that apply a mix, some using the value in a trade. Completely up to you.

I'll run one a day until we are done, and then FlamesAddiction wants to do a one off list version to compare the results.

We start with 35 names so this should get us pretty close to a Flames camp.

2020 Results
1. Valimaki - 85%
2. Zary - 62%
3. Pelletier - 74%
4. Wolf (Run Off)
5. Mackey (Run Off)
6. Pettersen 42%
7. Phillips 36%
8. Gawdin 28%
9. Zavgorodniy 34%
10. Poirier 39%

I have him ranked 20th on my personal list but screw it, I'm voting for Daniil Chechelev.

That top 10 looks a lot better than last year! Its actually really encouraging.

Hopefully the team holds on to them and we get to watch them develop

Okay, it has to Yan Kuznetsov this time. I'm going to quote from the Pronman thread so people know why some of us are high on him:

Courtesy of AC
Quote:
"I was very curious how he'd adapt to the surroundings, and this kid... it was almost instantaneous. This kid automatically established himself as one of the top young defencemen in all of college hockey. He was one of the few first year eligibles playing in the NCAA."

"When I watched him play, I mean my goodness, this kid was so fantastic. His puck management, his footwork, his escapability, this kid is what? 6'3" / 6'4", and he was able to stickhandle and deke his way away from forechecking pressure, head up into the middle of the ice, creating his own time and space for himself. Very deceptive skater, I mean he's big... but he's definitely not lumbering, and there were times when he looked even graceful. ... Very quick stick and soft hands.

I had Parsons next on my list, but switching to Kuznetsov. Pronman's views were certainly encouraging. But also, after taking a closer look, I realized that he was playing NCAA as a 17 year old. For a defenseman especially, that is almost unheard of.

And for Pronman to praise his smooth skating, again for a 17 year old that is already 6'4", that's pretty exciting.

For clarity, he is 18 now, but was 17 for most of the last NCAA season

I went Parsons.

Goalies almost never have a seamless path to the show, and I guess I kind of feel he got his chaos out of the way early.

Big game goaltender that was noticeable in the ECHL last year, and gets my vote because he still has starter as a projection when or if he puts it altogether (off ice issues, injury luck)

Kuznetsov gets my vote here.

Parsons, Kinvvall would be the next two for me.

Ruzicka 6’ plus center with soft hands and a solid two way game, might see action this season.

Can I just vote for a Kuznetsov-Kinnvall pair instead of deciding?

I voted Kuznetsov because he was 17 and playing in a good division of the NCAA as posters above said. Plus, he was good!

My next vote will be Chechelev or Kinvall. I haven't decided yet.

Voted for Nikolayev last time by mistake instead of Kuznetsov. Voting Kuznetsov for real this time and doing some introspection with respect to why I see all Russians as the same and what that says about me as a person.

I went with Kuznetsov this round again for reasons I've posted before. Next on my list is Kinnvall and then Ruzicka unless I hear a compelling argument. The Russian goalie has insane numbers but the sample size is small. Parsons is injured (potentially losing his athleticism) and can't get out of the ECHL Whether that is fair or not that's what I'm looking at for the next rounds.

Probably doesn't say much... I keep mixing him and Solovyov up too.
