Here's one of the goals, in which he embarrasses fellow Flame Poirier...

He beat our other lad, Poirier, like a rented mule.

Nice shot.

OMG Poirier is bad. The lazy pivot. The gap. He skates backward with an extended stick like a peewee. Make him a forward already and hope the hands are enough.

Poirier looks like a prototypical Oiler D-man.

I like this Francis pick. And this poirer for what was supposed to be a good skater, seemed stuck in the mud.

Let's bear in mind that this is one hi-light video. Poirier does not look good here, but these sorts of clip-videos exist for almost every hockey player ever.

Francis seems like a really high-upside player, but supposedly has a fairly solid all-round game. This seems like a really good pick without knowing too much about him.

That's a nice move by him for sure!

And yes, Poirier looked bad there, but as Textcritic pointed out, everyone looks bad on certain plays. Heck, I am sure that someone out there can make a video of Lidstrom's gaffes for like 10 minutes, and people who didn't follow his career would think he was the most overrated defencemen in the history of the game (and I think Lidstrom has probably been a top 5 defencemen of all time.. probably anyway).

Heck, just look at Ray Bourque's gap control and hockey sense on Mario Lemieux's first NHL goal! Or that time he completely fooled Bourque and put the puck in his skates.

Poirier really needs to work on his defensive acumen, but sometimes you simply get beat on high-skilled plays.

Oh really? I'll bear that in mind. No need to explain sample size of 1.

Ryan Francis - Right Wing - Cape Breton Eagles
6 goals, 15 assists, 21 points in 15 games

He hasn't really slowed down. Francis has produced as much as Pelletier, despite being younger (Francis turned 19 last Wednesday) and drafted way later. His linemate, Shawn Element, 20, is at nearly 2 points per game.

Gotta love the prospects that have great production right out of the gate.

Nice. I really feel like even though we have no blue chip prospects, we have a lot of guys who have a shot at making it

At this point I feel pretty comfortable calling Valimaki a blue-chipper.

Oh yeah. I guess he's 1 game away from not being a prospect. In my mind, he's an NHLer already, so I wasn't really considering him

“Ryan is an offensive threat and a game breaker,” explained Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. “We have seen that firsthand playing against him in the same division and it will be nice to now have him in our lineup. We anticipate that Ryan will be a two-year player for us and one of the most impactful 20-year-old players in the League next season, which we value greatly.”
Interesting...

Of course, that might change if the Flames sign him.

I'm not generally a fan of my team trading Flames prospects. I'd prefer if we got Poirier, but this is likely best for the Eagles.

Wishing him all the best in ... ugh ... Saint John (boo).

I'm a bit jaded when it comes to Flames prospects from the Q but hoping nothing but the best for this guy. These are the types of players you take a chance on.

As mentioned: Six points tonight for Francis, pushing him up to sixth in the QMJHL in scoring and fifth in points/GP. 16 goals and 48 points in 31 games.
