Not that I am advocating signing him, but this is fairly interesting:

Perhaps more interesting though are the on-ice numbers Colorado realized with Yakupov on the ice. Depth lines – and, correspondingly, depth players – tend to get crushed territorially across the league. But that wasn’t the case with Yakupov. The Avs outscored teams with Yakupov out there (note: he did carry quite a high PDO, thanks in large part to fantastic goaltending behind him), and broke even in terms of scoring chances and shots.

I do not expect the Flames to sign a top 6 winger of the JVR/Neal variety, but it is Treliving, so you never know. It's still a possibility.

I expect the Flames to sign at least one forward for the bottom 6, or two if they don't get their high priced winger.

For my other team, the Panthers, I expect they will be very quiet on UFA day. Panthers have a reported internal cap of 75 million. Vatrano signed after being qualified, but they still need contracts for McCann, Petrovic, and Weegar and are already at almost 72 million. They already made their big move by trading for Hoffman, and I think their lineup is pretty set at this point.

Huberdeau-Barkov-Dadonov
Hoffman-Trocheck-Bjugstad
Vatrano-McCann-Malgin
McGinn-McKenzie-Sceviour
Haley/rookie

Yandle-Ekblad
Matheson-Pysyk
McCoshen-Petrovic
Weegar

Luongo/Reimer

looks like Vanek is going back to Detroit for those who thought he would be a fit for the Flames.

Nash won't be signing with any teams, and sounds a lot like he may retire

Hopefully Flames don’t overpay for Neal

Would rather have Grabner on a shorter deal

Think Tre is active though - Flames need to make the playoffs

His job might be on the line if they don’t

Don't think Neal is coming to Canada. His girlfriend is a TV Host on Golf Channel and sideline reporter for CBS Sports.

Biggest thing I want today is a John Tavares extension so he doesn't end up in San Jose or Toronto.

Do Lindholm and Hanifin get locked up before free agency starts?

Can they sign offer sheets?
I know it's super unlikely, but interesting I guess.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Patrick Maroon I don't think has committed to anyone yet as teams continue to call but a top-6 fit in either New Jersey or Calgary might make sense... we shall see

Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
having said that, the sense is some new teams popping up on Maroon's radar, too, going to be an interesting 24 hours on that front

The Flames clearly want that grit and when Reaves didn't pan out we knew they'd start looking at guys like Maroon and Zack Smith
