Steinberg says he has heard Marco Sturms name from a few people he trusts. Also said he heard the swift current coach

Sturm is interesting I suppose. Has helped Germany stabilize their hockey program. As far as I can see with some quick searching. He's only coached Germany and nothing around the NHL system. But, he has done some great things with Germany so who knows.

I'd be excited about either.

Viveiros was mentioned by Friedman or Marek in the last 31 Thoughts podcast, specifically in regards to Calgary.

Both choices having some degree of success. Could something the Flamers are looking at. With Cameron, he never seemed to do GG any favors. A couple successful assistant coaches who are more likely to work within Peters framework might be a better approach than hiring a former NHL coach as an assistant.

I would love Marco Sturm as one of the assistants. Same with Viveiros (Oilers draft pick now gonna haunt them I hope)

I have no freaking clue what candidate would make a great assistant coach or not so I'm not going to sit here and say I'd prefer this guy over that guy.

I just hope the people hiring the assistants know what they're doing and we actually see the results with a successful on ice product for once.

It sounded on the radio yesterday (between boomer and Kerr) that Huska was almost a certainty. They made it seem like nothing confirmed, but they wouldn't be surprised if he filled one of the two openings.

Probably take Viveiros off the list as John Shannon hinting he is headed to Edmonton as the 3rd assistant

Shannon coming up on 960 and will probably touch on this some more

I see Edmonton is going "all in" for another Cup this season.
LETS GET ALL THE ASSISTANTS, why stop at 3??

The 2 teams in the Stanley Cup finals have 3 Assistant coaches. Not sure why that is such a big deal.

It's because Edmonton is no good... at anything.

You're proving my point.
If at first you cant succeed, emulate what the current teams are doing and hope it works for you!
2,3,4,5? Wont matter.

So with Viverios likely becoming an Oiler.

What the rumor mill churning for the Flames? Sturm and Huska?

I mean McLean should be a viable option,he runs good powerplays. Maybe he hires Vigneault as an assistant. Since there's no more HC jobs available. Unles Trotz win or lose is gonzo from WSH.

I see. So if the Oilers do what the winning teams are doing, they are stupid because they are copycats. Whereas if the Oilers don't do what the winning teams are doing, they are stupid because they are not doing what helps you win.

Technically this argument is acceptable on CP, because the Oilers are always fair game, but Lordy, would it ever sound dumb in any other context.

Please hire a former decent defenceman. Gio leads but needs a voice so he can concentrate on just playing hockey.

Yawney would have been nice but....meh whatevs. Who is out there that would fill this roll.?

I’d love a no nonsense guy like Regher or Sarich. Makes me wish Brad McCrimmon was still around.

FFS. Why does this franchise insist on crapping the bed over and over again with coaching decisions
