Default What is Dillon Dube?

Started a what is Mark Jankowski thread a while back and have to say I, to this point, was mistaken on Janks, really saw him as a second third line c. still possible I guess.

So what exactly do we have with Dillon Dube? Certainly more than a scrub but could we see a similar type of start as Mangiapane?
then proceeding to look like a stalwart on our top 2 lines or are we seeing a great flash in the playoffs like some players have?

What is the read?

Top 6 guy. He has wheels, offensive skill, defensive smarts and he’s a leader.

I see him as similar to Kasperi Kapanen but with better hands.

He's looked amazing in the playoffs so far, so it's difficult to answer this objectively.

Looks like a 1st line winger in August

I tend to agree, and didn't throw out Andrew by accident. I think hes going to be a top six no doubt. A more offensive and forcefull Backlund if I may be so bold.

I can see him developing into a top 6 player. 60+ points. If Dube can play C.. I would like to see:

Tkachuk-Dube-Mangiapane

Next year.

I would say that only time will tell what Dube is. I wouldn't pencil him (nor Mangiapane) as part of the core, or the 'next' core yet. They will have to consistently prove that they are top 6 players to do so. I am hopeful though, and I do like what I see. Same goes for Jankowski too. He had a really strong first two seasons, and this season has been hugely disappointing. Is he a player that Treliving tosses away, or do you give him another shot? What if Dube and Mangiapane have a disappointing year as well?

That's what (to me) sets a Gaudreau and a Monahan apart as distinctly part of the core - they have tremendous seasons (not just good), and even in their 'down' years, they still put up top 6 points.

I would say he is unquestionably a great draft pick that is progressing really well, and is becoming a complete player in all zones and in all situations. He is trending well, and it wouldn't surprise me if he plateaus near his level right now, or if just continues to improve and becomes a top 6 player. It is just too early to tell at this point, but it is definitely encouraging.

The answer is "a Rock star".

I heard this on Vancouver radio from a media guy who was in Rogers Place.

Apparently, after Dube cross checked Dickinson and got called for a penalty, he complained to the officials and the Stars' bench was giving him a hard time for it and asked if he thought he was a "rock star".

Then Dube got stopped on the breakaway and the Stars' bench was again heckling him and calling him "rock star" again.

Then Dube scored the highlight reel goal and apparently, the Stars bench response was "ok, he is a rock star".

So the answer is "Rock Star".

Dube, Mangiapane, and Ras are the future of the team, the "new core". Other parts of the new core are Tkachuk, hopefully Valimaki, hopefully Bennett. The "old core" is Gio, Brodie, Backlund, possibly Monahan and Gaudreau.

This is a neat time for the team, with some really genuinely talented (and hard working) new blood being injected at just the right time.

I said in another thread I think the team is a step shy of being a cup contender, but it's starting to look like a very good team here, very deep.

What's Dube? A really decent winger with some speed.

Far rather see Bennett stay in the middle.

Might be the highest IQ guy on the team now and may be the highest in many years.

Does everything well and a couple things exceptionally well. I see him as Backlunds replacement eventually.

Top 6, great skater, smart and likely to be an elite PK guy and contributor on the PP.

Its what he played as a junior and what he was drafted to be IMO.

I see him as kind of a Tyler Johnson type. I'd say him and Mange could become wo thirds of our equivalent of Tampa's triplets line.

Developing into a top-six NHLer. Still needs a bit more experience and confidence, but he has all the tools.

Also a little known fact that he works as a caddy during the off-season:
