When he was drafted I remember thinking that Kylington had a Ryan Ellis feel. Smaller guy, good first pass, and a great skater but people questioned his defensive play and hockey sense.

Ellis really evolved his game post his draft season, and IMO you've seen some of that from Kylington as well.

Some posters rank on pure potential; some on NHL readiness; some attempt to balance both. Yes I get a good feeling about Pettersen too. Comments after his first dev camp from the other players (I think Phillips said he was special) sealed it for me. I’m pretty sure he won a dev camp award last year.

I think he has an uncommon (even for drafted players) passion - since he was a Youtube phenom - that has and will serve him well.

He seems to me to be an on the puck type guy who gets in there despite his size. I felt similar to Gaudreau in his development (passion, on the puck).

Picked Kylington although I think Dube is going to be a stud as well. Can’t help but feel with Kylington’s raw offensive tools he could easily be a 40+ point a year dman in a couple years. But Dube is also a top notch prospect.

It’s pretty much a tie between Dube and Kylington for me. I went with Dube because I think he’s a bit more of a sure thing. Both have nice upside. Dube I think would fetch more in trade. Kylington might be worth more in 3 years. Very bright futures for both. As some have noted Kylington’s path to the top 6 seems blocked until injury unless some trades and/or repositioning happens.

Tough one for me. Kylington might have a slightly higher potential but I don't really consider him a prospect anymore having played close to 40 games as an NHL dman. That sways me to Dube.

Kylington came a long way in 2018-19. I wasn't a believer at the start of the season, but I am now.

Dubé then Pelletier then Kylington for me

I’ve been Kylington’s biggest supporter for years but after watching him over the years he hasn’t made enough progress fixing his weaknesses to lead me to believe that they will ever get fixed. The way I see him is basically Sam Bennett as a defenseman, without the grit. All the skill in the world but lacks the hands and balance to keep up with what he is trying to pull off. He loses pucks that he is full control of when trying to make even simple moves, and he falls down with an alarming frequency for such an effortless skater. It’s tragic to me because I love the way he plays and I want him to succeed very badly but I don’t think he will ever put it all together.

He’ll play 400+ games, I just don’t think he’ll ever be much more than a passable #4. Of course, that still makes him more valuable than the rest of the guys after him. I really hope I am wrong about him.

I like Dubé over Pelletier since they both seem to have demonstrated equal-ish projectable production, and Dubé is closer to prime time.

Dillon Dube
Terrific two-way centre who can easily transition to either wing. Terrific utility player. Generated sizeable production in junior without abandoning his defensive duties and didn't rely on the powerplay. Carried that into a monster first season in the AHL given his age at over a point-per-game with only a quarter coming on the PP. Also doesn't rely on others to carry him generating over 3 shots/game. A step behind in the NHL in both pre-season and regular season as expected - training camp heater gave brief unrealistic expectations for those who puck watch exclusively.

Ceiling: 1st line C/W
Probable: 1B/2A C/W
Floor: 3rd line C


Also in consideration
Nobody. #1 and #2 are in a league of their own.
