Age doesn't matter in this case.....its all about adjustment to the bigger faster game. Everything was new to DD last year....for the first time in years he was not one of the top players on his team, never mind the league he was playing in.

Give Dube at least last year to figure it out, which it sure looks like he did at the AHL level.

I'm also in a huge minority that doesn't believe in Kylingtons "upside". I don't see a guy that thinks the game quick or well enough to be anything but a depth player, though admittedly at times last year he looked better than he had. His skating is above average, but nothing else about his game strikes me as anything special. He also plays a more difficult position, but again he has had 4 years to figure things out. This is going to be a very important year for him IMO.

This was a tough decision for me, but I went with Kylington. Kylington doesn’t get as much respect due to Valimaki and Anderson jumping ahead of him, but he is a solid solid prospect. I decided to look at it completely objectively. It was between Dube and Kylington for me, and I think Kylington has a higher ceiling.

Kylington's skating is "above average" in the same sense that Johnny Gaudreau's height is "below average".

Just think you were understating the strength of Kylington's skating which, in my humble opinion, is elite (not merely "above average").

I also think he has excellent vision in the offensive zone.

In terms of his weaknesses, I think he really improved his decision-making last season. Strength is probably the most glaring remaining weakness. Hopefully he is working on that over the summer.

For me it's pretty clear that Dube is the number 2 prospect after Valimaki. Dube is probably going to start the year in Calgary, and has top 6 upside. Kylington is most likely going to start the year in Stockton, unless there are injuries, and I really only see him as a bottom pairing guy going forward, because he is lacking in the defensive side of the game.

Kent Wilson had a list of players 21 and under at the AHL level to put up a point per game. Mangiapane was the focus, at 21.5 he had the 11th best such season ahead of the likes of Mark Stone, David Krejci, Kris Versteeg and Claude Giroux.

Dube was a point per game a full year younger.

Kylington imo has the highest ceiling here. Another two or three years of getting better - stronger, better reads, more icetime - and he might be our top defenseman on the NHL squad.

The only other ceiling I see as high is Parsons and goalies are a game of Roulette.

I do indeed love Dillon Dube (and he is a clear #3 on my list). However, in the context of this adversarial poll process, Dube is the enemy!

Kylington, if the stars align perfectly, probably has the bigger upside compared to Dube. But I think Dube has the best chance to make the biggest impact and he has a great post draft history. Pelletier is just too new to me, and it's been pretty hard to gauge.

No way. Dube's floor is career AHLer. He has shown nothing at the NHL level. The guy can very well never make the NHL. Kylington on the other hand has shown that he can at least play at the NHL level.

Dube looked like a really decent rookie prospect in his NHL stint. A big head hit took some steam out of that, but there's absolutely no reason to think he won't be a regular NHLer, and soon.

I went Kylington, I think he's destined for top 4 just based on what I've seen already.

Dube is a close third though. Not surprised he's getting a lot of love in the poll already.

I am surprised that Pelletier is not in the conversation for #2. He is billed as a complete player who back checks and hard as he fore checks. He has killer instinct, and offensive flair. By all reports he has got "it".

For me this is not a next player to play NHL games list. If it were Lomberg would go in the top 6. Its a who will be the most impact player looking back after their time with the Flames is done.
