Obviously playoffs are a new season but optimism for a long run is waning.

I guess your optimism is waning.

I'm not a game to game guy sorry. They're second overall, that shouldn't cause a lot of waning.

Top line needs to get it together, but the goaltending is better shape, they've found a third pair that makes sense, and with the fourth line coming on and reinforcements like Dube and Valimaki in the wings they've got some of the best depth they've ever had.

Or ...

We lost to LA and I'm grumpy

We also beat "heavy" teams time and time again all season...

3 games of the next 12. We win them or SJ loses them and we win the west.
I'm feeling pretty confident.

I don't really buy that at all. The kings didn't play a hard or heavy game at all last night. Infact, I don't remember once scenario where they even attempted to body a Calgary player or push them around. Every hit was pretty matter of fact with nothing too it. LA just kept it simple, clogged up the ice and it seemed like Calgary didn't have a second gear.

Monahan really needs to get it together. Johnny seems like he's his normal self but really needs someone on that line to step up and do something....anything to get the PP rolling.

For me, Smith may have actually played his best game since early last season. Last night was the first night I haven't been just waiting for him to let in complete softie all season.

They kept the Flames to the outside. And this is the worst team in the West.

Dallas will be a tough game too. Wait and see I guess. I am starting to see a trend.

The Flames beat the Kings twice this season prior to last night.

It was an off game. A dud. Nothing more, really.

You may have felt more comfortable about Smith last night, but he has played a few impressive games this year. Shutouts v. Nashville and Minnesota come to mind, as does his win in Toronto.

yeah I'd love for the Flames to be a heavy team like the Kings, so heavy that we sink all the way down to 30th place like them.

True but that's when all teams played looser and the Flames had a top line.

Since the ASB they lost most of the games vs bigger teams.

No, you’re not. The Flames have won plenty of games v. “heavy” teams all season including Winnipeg, SJ, Boston, Vegas, Anaheim and others.

They've also lost games to smaller teams. Ebbs and flows of a season.

Also the Kings have been behind the 8 ball almost all season. At no time were they playing a loose game.

There wasn't a thing about that game that was heavy.

Weak team scored an early goal and then collapsed in front of their own net and tried to last 59 minutes playing wack puck.

It's not just Monahan. Gaudreau turned the puck over 6 times last night.

They didn't keep them to the outside through heavy hockey, they did by completely collapsing and playing for a 1-0 win.

Teams that do that lose 19 times out of 20, that one time came up last night.

However, the top line has to stop forcing a square peg into a round hole. If the other team gives you the outside, use it, simplify and score some greasy goals. Gaudreau has to stop forcing things through 8 sets of skates.

But the Flames can't play greasy Bingo. That's my point.
We don't have the bodies that can fight through that. Point shots are out only hope.

The real key was the early goal. Allowed LA to shift into Minnesota in the 2000s Hockey. Clog up neutral zone, keep players outside, ice the puck.

First line was not good, but the PP needs to be much better. From the eye test, seemed players on both units had zero urgency on the man advantage.

Learn from it and move on
