I'm up here in Edmonton. Most people here share Calgary's concern over the economy, pipelines and the state of the province.

The NDP will be lucky to keep 6 or 8 seats here.

Only another "Lake of Fire" type error will stop a UCP movement.

I just hope this election will return to being about the issues rather than sideshow crap like GS-Alliances, etc.

How about we work to reduce the insane differentials that are massacring our economy first?

Here's their platform:
1) The NDP is horrible.
2) Carbon tax sucks.
3) Find inefficiencies and cut red tape.
4) *insert one catchy phrase that does nothing but appeals to the lowest denominator* (eg. buck a beer, MAGA, can't someone else do it)
5) hard working middle class Albertans.
Add in hold spending at the rate of pop growth and inflation and wage freeze until public sector wages are at the next highest province and you got yourself a balanced budget. I suspect the Carbon tax stays in some form as leverage for pipelines and just the spending on green stupidity is cut.

Interesting. I spend a lot of time in Edmonton and around the province. I’m not convinced the NDP will even lose the election.

They’ve made themselves rich with union dues and managed to keep the socialist stuff in dark corners. They have every gun loaded and can pitch steady as she goes.

Kenney has to count on people understanding debt, deficits, and growth, AND keep his head above the personal attacks. I don’t imagine it, even without a bozo eruption.

Not saying you are wrong. I just haven’t seen it.

I'd like to see an election without all the mudslinging and fear mongering that usually goes on. I don't expect that to change

Here's what Kenney is hinting at and what we might see.

Quote:
"One thing I've said is we would be comfortable, probably, going back to what we had as a levy — a tax — on major emitters, where the companies that produce the emissions actually paid into a research fund," Kenney said.

This type of regulatory system was introduced in Alberta in 2007 by the Progressive Conservative government of Ed Stelmach and modified in 2018 by the current NDP government.

The regulations only apply to large emitters and are separate from the broader-based carbon tax that the NDP introduced in 2017, which applies to the consumer-level sale of gasoline, diesel, propane and natural gas.
Quote:
"That fund, paid for by major emitters, I think is a good way of doing it," Kenney said of his ideal climate-change policy for Alberta.

"I think the solution is through research and development, science and technology, that will find thousands of small innovations that reduce the carbon intensity of our economy."

Nenshi won with a paltry 50% of the votes and if Smith had any substance and a campaign that consisted of more than "Vote for me because I'm not Nenshi" he would be the mayor today. Don't kid yourself it's not going to be close in Calgary.

with Kenney and Notley? I think we're going to see the most disgusting battle the province has ever seen.
I'm prepared for all mud and no substance.

I like that Kenney agressively promotes buying Alberta oil...but between possible misrepresentation and the fact that we have no way to export the oil to India and won't until 2045 it seems like that wasn't the best move.

Here's what we're going to see

NDP - The UCP are caveman Neanderthals, they're going to go after the LBGT community and push them back into the closet. They're going to start public execution of government workers. They're going to slash our programs and force woman back into the kitchen and force them to take off their shoes.

UCP - The NDP are blundering incompetents who line up their union buddies at the trough. They're going to spend us into oblivion. Their carbon tax, tax increases to business and general addiction to taxing in general are going to chase ordinary Canadians into the poor house and businesses out of the province. Clearly Notley wants to not only make this a negative campaign but she hates pipelines and puppies.

Liberal Party of Alberta - durp, when I flick this light switch in our office, nothing turns on. We'd like to introduce our new leader, Bobbo the office intern.

Alberta Party - Is this thing on tap tap.

Yeah Dion, this next campaign is going to be a ugly war between the two major parties with mud slinging allegations of being captured by ideology, and personal shots across the aisles.

Its going to be the same Federally, sadly its up to the voters to look at their platforms and try to ignore the static.

I can't imagine being a member of the Alberta Liberal party makes for much of a fulfilling political career.

I've said that while its important to have parties of different political stripes, the Liberals really are not doing a good job in Alberta, they just don't seem to be thoughtful in terms of how they're promoting themselves.

I would think that the smart move would be to approach someone like the Alberta Party and merge so they can run candidates everywhere and not split the "Fringe" vote.

You think most voters actually look at the platforms? Good chunk of Canadians have made up their mind before any campaigning even begins.

That's not what I said at all, maybe my statement was poorly worded, but I didn't go into the hardcore political lines in this country.

Every election is really a fight over something like 10% to 15% of the undecided voters who might not even bother to vote.

I mean that its up to voters to do their own due diligence if they want to to get past the static of ideological campaigning.

I agree, there is about 10-15% of voters that will swing things in one direction or another. The rest are already hunkered down for the long sleep until election day.

In my opinion the Liberals are really going to have a strong showing, simply because of issues facing the other parties. The NDP is collapsing under Jagmeet, and any on-the-fence supporters will surely swing to the Liberals. I believe I saw on TV the other day Jagmeet saying that the Liberals are stealing their ideas, but that's OK as long as they're done properly. Trudeau also got a boost in approval rating with his relatively tough and very public negotiation strategy with Trump on NAFTA. Standing up to POTUS is probably going to work more in his favor, especially if he comes out with a strong deal for dairy farmers.

On the other side,Unfortunately for the Conservatives, the Maxime Bernier People's Party may end up getting 10-15% of the popular vote, cutting into their numbers. Also, Andrew Scheer doesn't exactly resonate with charisma. They have an uphill battle.

The BQ is the BQ and the Greens are the Greens, staying in stasis.

I don't know. As an undecided, it's nice to know for certain that the UCP is filed with a bunch of homophobic climate change deniers and the like. With the pipeline seemingly out of our control, at least it would be nice not to have uneducated ignorant bigots in office. My perspective at least.

Nice deflection.

I don't to be governed by a bunch of Trump lites.

"Big ol' tax cuts for the mega rich, and the homosexuals and their uppity agenda can shut up" UCP platform.
