That's Jakob Pelletier's camp number.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Simon reverse his old digits and go with 21, which hasn't been used since Hathaway.

My guesses:

21 for Simon
20 for Nordstrom
18 for Zary
3 for Mackey
15 for Petrovic

Faster than a lizard drinkin'.

The way I see it, the Flames traded Janko (1x$700) to Pittsburgh for Simon (1x$700).

I like that move a lot

Zara’s gonna have a number in the 60s until he makes the big club, would be my guess anyway...

Depends. Tkachuk, Foo, and Mackey got 19, 15 and 6 right away.

Fair, although Tkachuk was a 6th overall pick with a great chance of cracking the roster while Foo and especially Mackey were highly sought-after college free agents in their 20s expected to make a big push for NHL jobs.

Don't think anyone expects Zary to push for NHL time for at least a year minimum, if not 2-3 years.

I definitely don't think Zary makes the team next year, though stranger things have happened.

The year after I think he's a decent pencil in 3rd line C. Mostly because of his projection profile, but also we're due for that.

Monahan also got 23 right out of the gate - he, like Tkachuk, was expected to make the team out of camp as a high draft choice.

Gaudreau wore 53 until he officially made the big club in 2014.

Mackey was signed and got a jersey with 6. Valimaki took the number from him less than six months later.

We gave 15 to someone the year after Foo signed as well, from what I recall.

I have this weird theory that the better the rest of the team is, the less pressure we’ll put on our top line... and also the opposition won’t be able to just focus on one line anymore.

I know it’s kinda out there, but that’s my theory anyway.

I figured Treliving was out hunting physical depth forwards but I had no idea he would be getting them this dirt cheap, man what a steal.

I still think the Flames are trying to trade Bennett and Ryan (Hanifin, maybe Kylington too?) a great opportunity is presenting itself for the young AHL'ers...

Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Simon - Gawdin - Dubé (can Dillon still be a centre?)
Lucic - Ruzika - Nordstrom
Rinaldo/Robinson

Tuulola and Pospisil could see time crashing and banging on the 4th line as well.

The Nordstrom / Simon signings give me this weird retro 2004 Nilson / Niemenen feeling. Probably just me.

There is little to no chance the Flames trade Sam Bennett this offseason imo. Why on Earth would they do that unless he is part of a bigger deal?

Not to mention Friedman reported that Bennett is part of the Flames plan for next season and is not on the block.

How about the 2004 Simon acquisition?

Wow, not the post I expected to get a "this post is terrible" from. I've definitely posted way worse.

Simon in all likelihood isn't going to move the needle any, and him and Nordstrom probably just get us back to even with last year's roster. But if he's serviceable, I guess great.

Not throwing confetti Brad's way for fringe moves though when it's the guts that need a transplant or two.

No one asked you to throw confetti. People have reacted to your post as they have because of your weirdly unnecessary disparagement of this signing as if it has anything at all to do with Treliving's plans for the top-six.

You've still missed the point.

No one was throwing confetti around about this signing.

But then some people came in and started to trash the place.

Just odd all around.

FWIW I’m really impressed with the Simon and Nordstrom signings. I have to think these guys had some options and to get them both at league minimum, plus add Gawdin hopefully competing for a spot and I’m pretty happy with the bottom of the roster.

Not the moves I was hoping for, but solid moves for what they are. This team missed a guy like Hathaway last year IMO.

Same people that constantly complain about the Flames being mediocre are a mad that players will have to compete for spots and whoever is playing better gets to play

mind bottling
