How does this affect Sam Bennett? Is Sam Bennett really a 3rd line C? Or was he sent from Iran to disrupt the Flames lineup?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Simon - Nordtstrom/Ryan - Ryan/Nordstrom
Robinson
With the "Stockton" Heat likely playing somewhere nearby in Canada (...in Calgary? Saskatchewan?), we're better off to have these solid veterans signed and then pull reserves from the Heat as injuries occur. Depth.

Last time we picked up someone named Simon we went to the Stanley Cup Final. Let's go with that!

If nothing else changes maybe roll:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Backlund-Lindholm
Lucic-Bennett-Dube
Nordstrom-Ryan-Simon

I understand the frustration fans have with these signings. Albeit necessary, there's a good chance they don't move the needle. Depth isn't the reason the team lost in the first round in back to back years.

Neither here nor there, but it always bothered me that when Tkachuk went down, it was Reider that went to the second line as his replacement, instead of Ryan.
Wouldn't it make more sense to move Reider to centre the 4th line? Anyway, should anything happen to Monahan, it's good to know that replacement #1 centre Dom Simon is geared up and ready to go.
There is going to be a lot of competition for the bottom line this year. I like Simon and Nordstrom a lot. I also think that Gawdin needs a call-up, as he has nothing more to prove in the AHL. This is a much better problem to have than the dog's breakfast style bottom six of last year.

Honestly don't think the Flames see either of Pelletier or Zary on their fourth line this year.
I'm all for blocking the way and making a kid force his way onto a team. Gawdin and Phillips need to be better than the other options or they don't make the team.

Seems to me that the Flames are focusing on depth guys on purpose to push young players but also give them an opportunity to make the squad.
It's not impossible that we could see Pelletier or Zary on the Flames

I don't think either one of Gawdin or Phillips has been as good in the AHL as were Mangiapane and Dube. Both of these players earned their spots over time through injury replacement, and it took about two seasons before they cemented their places on the NHL roster. I expect Gawdin, Phillips and possibly Ruzicka to follow this same path, which likely means a lot of movement between Calgary and the AHL team between 2021–22.

While we have decent forward depth, our top line for example has been less than the sum of it parts lately. Trying other combinations might help, and having more players who don't drag the top players down is a bonus.

Sometimes you have to do things one step at a time and there are a lot of variables to consider. I think Tre recognizes we need a top 6, but I think after several misses, addressing the goal-tending situation could wait no longer. This is especially true if we want to have playoff success.
I am pretty sure if we were not able to acquire a top goaltender that Treliving would have went the other route and addressed the top line. It is imperceptive that if the Flames do make changes that we are patient enough to wait for the right opportunities. Treliving is likely taking precaution addressing needs, as to not weaken the current team going forward.

Flames 4th line will have Ryan and possibly Lucic, who are guys that have some offense, so it's not the worst spot for a rookie. Like if you feed Ryan in the slot, he can score and Lucic might be able to find you in the slot with a crisp pass.
