The Kralken came close, but, could not get the tying goal. The Capitals get the two points and head back to Canada to play the Canucks on Saturday night.

Nick DeSimone played his first game as a Devil. Played nearly 25 minutes and scored an assist

No no, don’t worry. Jake Allen, with one season over .907 in the last seven years and sitting under .900 for the last two years is now the solution after one single good game.

A huge win for Oilers-East. Best for them to put all their faith in him.

I also show Jake Allen with a .908 save% for his career but under that mark his entire time in Montreal who was rebuilding almost the entire time he was there. Any chance his numbers were due to the team being bad?

Flames save % for our goalies are dropping since we traded 3 dmen for picks.

I'm not suggesting Allen in the solution but for some picks the devils turned $3.4 mil into $1.9 mil in cap next year and Allen could be a good back up split option. Time will tell how he plays on a better team than Montreal has been the last 3 years. They walked away from Markstrom while the price was Mercer, he also scored again and has a history of being a 2nd half performer.

Vanecek is a career .905 and he was sporting .890 with NJ.

Not sure how Allen’s career .908 that he hasn’t seen more than once in almost a decade is going to save them.

I show 2 years below .900 then every year before that .905 or better.

It's only 2 bad years, Markstrom really was just as bad in 1 of them playing on a better team. Time will tell and I doubt Allen is the answer but at $1.9 mil for 1 more year he only needs to be a good back up split option for them.

Mercer is also barely 22 and already had nearly a 60-point season. That needs to be considered when everyone beaking at why NJ passed for now.

If I was Fitz, i'd pass for now too. Probably pass in the summer unless the Flames come down to earth with their demands. Conroy should have just done it for less now IMO

He's told markstrom he won't move him unless it is franchise changing. Lowering the offer is not franchise changing.

Again, how is Allen going to help them?

They went into the playoffs last year with a .910 goaltender and got shelled for 5+ goals in half of their games. Allen is going to go in with a .905 and… what?

At least Markstrom is actually playing at a high level on a rebuilding team. Not sure how Montreal is significantly worse than Calgary on the backend given that their xGA is actually lower than the Flames and the Flames are propped up by significantly outscoring them. You would think if Allen was anywhere close to even a stop gap he would be… you know… playing like one.

Hell, NJ’s xGA is almost exactly the same as Montreal’s. Pretty slim margins between Montreal and the “better” team.

Like Markstrom how much is this on Vanecek? Markstrom got lit by the Oilers and it trickled into the next season. It continued to snowball all year. How much was it lost confidence? Not sure

Vanecek lost his job in playoffs and him and Schmid were bad this year and not to mention Dougies leading minutes in ice on d and Hughes injures cause NJ to be out not in?

If you look at the deal for this year alone I agree but what if they get a goalie or Markstrom in the summer and keep Mercer? Is that a win?

Wolf's save % went up
The other guys played Panthers, Canes, Avs, not exactly a walk in the park

But overall team save percent is bad and more than likely will be worse without Hanifin and Tanev

Allen’s went up and it was against the Stars. Not exactly a walk in the park
