Now we have a guy who was playing with Crosby and Guentzel who we could plug into a top line.
The Penguins thought he wasn't worth qualifying at 800K. If he was a valid top-6 replacement then they really missed a great deal.

Rieder playing top-6 high-lights the over payment of Ryan. Rieder was a better top-6 option as Ryan was needed to generate offense from 4C?

The reason the Pens didn't qualify him was arbitration rights. They would have been stuck with whatever the arbitrator awarded him with and that wasn't an option given their cap situation.

Just as a courtesy: I believe his last name is pronounced "See-moan", like he's French.

Not "Sigh-mun", i.e. the former Flames tough guy.

Dude I'm not saying play him in the top 6 permanently.

Riddle me this, Ricardo...

If an injury to the top 6 happens in the playoffs again, would you rather have a guy who by all accounts seems to win board battles and has played with Crosby, or Tobias Reider?

On the bright side now the Flames have the option or trading Gaudreau and Monahan for prospects and draft picks and still have some NHL forwards to expose to the Seattle draft

Both Simon and Nordstrom need less than 10 NHL games to meet the exposure requirements

I'm amazed at the amount of hand-wringing over a low-risk depth-move at league minimum.

At worst, the reaction should be met with a shoulder shrug.

Wrong. You can't walk away from any arbitration award of less than $4.538 mil/year

It is the main reason players don't get QO when they have arbitration rights.

NHL teams shed 25%-35% of their roster every summer ... players move around.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to analyze the methodology of swapping out fourth liners.

They cant unless it is above a certain value. He would have been under that amount and they would be stuck with the contract.

Wrong again. They do not meet exposure requirements because they signed 1 year deals.

Quote:

.

If the Flames sign them to contract extensions, then yes they would.

They are both on one year contracts though, so they would have to be resigned before the expansion draft to be eligible for it. Otherwise they would be free agents

Hey these guys are taking spots from the young guys in the Flames system.

Makes it harder for the Flames to give Pelltier and Zary and Gadwin and Phillips a chance to earn a roster spot out of camp.

The Flame now have 13 forwards on one-way contacts. Cap Friendly does not put Buddy Robinson on the Flames roster but 700K to play in AHL is a lot.

Shh... ricardowdw lives in his own little world where real rules don't apply if they don't fit his agenda.

22 points in 64 games is actually pretty solid production. Or 28 points points in 71 games.
For 700k, can't complain.

Although I guess that's not much of an accomplishment if you play with Crosby.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Newly signed #Flames forward Dominik Simon says he’s 100% recovered from the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Return to Play for Pittsburgh.

Training in Prague right now. Says he’ll be heading to Calgary soon to continue training here.
