I remember the joe rogan podcast where he had Tim Pool grill Jack Dorseyand his Lawyer. Half the podcast went like this:

Tim: "Look at this example of someone on the left and right making essentially the same tweet. The person on the right was punished, the person on the left was not. Why is that?"

Lawyer: "The difference is context" *goes on to define the context based entirely on their political ideology*

So either they're playing politics, or they are so consumed by their ideology they are incapable of seeing past it, not sure which one is more dangerous.

Can people really be “punished” by Twitter for a tweet? Just sign up again with a new account. We’re not talking about getting a new SIN or something where there are hoops to jump thru.

It is very easy to create a new account and to follow anyone on Twitter. As soon as you start tweeting as Donald Trump you are gone. Like whack-a-mole. Pretty hard to hide if you never shut up.

Exactly. These people are only mad because they’ve lost their followers and have lost the ability to capitalize on their celebrity.

It isn’t really about free speech or censorship at all. It’s about the power that these people could wield using Twitter.

IMO, this has nothing to do with Net Neutrality, but that’s just me

I'm not acquainted enough, on the ins and outs of Net Neutrality, I just thought it was an interesting comment.

Ya Net Neutrality is related to platforms access to their users via an ISP in a completely neutral manner (ie. Bell couldn't bandwith restricting Netflix to drive users to Crave, which has unfettered bandwidth access) and not related to what happens on a platform or users allowed to access a platform.

You can find just as many the other way. That literally proves nothing

Default Trump permanently suspended from Twitter

Stripe is a credit card payment processor, and they have now stopped processing credit card payments for Trump's website.

To bad they can't start giving refunds to people because the funds on his site are being used for illegal purposes.

I wonder if the IRS could get involved somehow to stop them from raising money if it's used to organize violent protests.

One thing that is missing from all of these discussion is that Trump and Parler have remedies available to them. They just need to sue the companies banning / dropping them and the courts will determine if protections apply.

I am not on Twitter or Instagram or those things. I can see why Trump being deleted from Twitter is a big deal, but isn’t that big of a deal to me because I don’t follow along.

Educate me here CP. Would there be any value to all politicians from all parties not being on social media? Or is it that valuable of a communication tool?

I am not just talking about campaigning, I am talking about day to day.

Just a question.

Or do I just need to get with the times, even though I don’t want to? Am I really missing out?

At the root, it's about the political figure being able to instantly reach out to their supporters, free of any editorial comment or editing. This has been happening since FDR in one form or another, Nixon did it a ton via TV. The thing is with social media is that now you don't have to be a president to do it, your local rep at any level of government can do it.

I followed Trump on twitter, not for his crazy statements but for the comments following them. The negative comments were at least 10-1 with the R-wingers getting their lunch handed to them.

I'll miss the comedy

Ben Shapiro's account is still active if you're looking for a fix.

I've seen the wedding cake thing brought up in lots of places but the SCOTUS didn't decide the store could refuse to bake cakes, they dodged the question entirely and made a much more narrow ruling that the "Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which originally ruled against the baker, had been shown to be hostile to religion because of the remarks of one of its members."

So it's not going to support the idea that Amazon/Apple/Google et al can ban Parler or ban Trump.

Lol didn't Shapiro announce he was starting an entertainment company a bit ago?

EDIT: "Ben Shapiro launches entertainment business that he says won't 'promote Leftist causes'"

I don't think there's many people as boring as Shapiro.

Doubt I could follow him, when Sam Harris handed him his lunch I posted a not very warm comment in the thread about it and it was deleted along with dozens of others almost immediately

Shapiro is a hypocrite moron faking his way for $$$ thru the use of religion
