I'm just about at 5 months, and yesterday I woke up with a very irritated and sore throat. Today has been much of the same. I spoke to my mother who quit smoking 26 years ago, and she said at about the same time period (5-6 months in) she got a very sore throat. She also said that her doctor warned her that it would happen, and she had it for about 2 weeks.

Has anyone else heard of this side effect? I'm not looking forward to two weeks of this.

Haven't had much in the way of cravings though. Just find myself a tad irritable.
Tell your co workers you and you are irritable. They will avoid you like the plague and you won't have anyone to flip out on

Keep it up and one day at a time

I had a co worker come in one day and said that she quit. I asked how and she stated she opened her closet one day and her clothes reeked of cigarette smoke. That was enough for her and she never smoked again...

24 hours as a non smoker as of......now. Feels good man.

Totally took out my aggression at the gym tonight, and probably tore every muscle in my chest as a result....lol.

As stupid as it sounds, I already feel more energetic. Every time I have quit in the past, the first 72 hours were the worst torture, and I am now 1/3 of the way through the hardest part.

I have made the decision to finally quit smoking.

My end date will be in 12 minutes, I am seriously going outside and having my final cigarette. This past week my mother was diagnosed with COPD, and she is still smoking.
Yes, as sad as that sounds, she is STILL smoking!

I don't want that life, I want to be healthy again.

So, here goes nothing. I am done with the cravings, I am done with the need to have nicotine in my body.

It's good to know that there are other people going through the same struggle as myself.

Thanks for this group.

Signed up for the ride to conquer cancer tonight. That should be some pretty huge leverage to not re start.

Well I just went and picked up the Allen Carr book. Pretty excited to read through it. So I'm looking at quiting sometime this week, whenever I finish the book... hopefully the book helps me like it did for some friends/coworkers.

False alarm. It's just a damn head cold.

Just wanted to give a shout out to everyone here who's trying to quit smoking! I work with many people who have recently quit and are making huge progress every morning. One healthy step leads to another.

My mother had four sisters in Chatham, Ontario, all of whom were smokers (including her) The oldest died of lung cancer. The second has had lung cancer and her husband died of colon cancer. The middle daughter has skin cancer. The second youngest has had lung cancer and breast cancer and my mother is a breast cancer survivor (mastectomy). My aunt, on her deathbed said to me 'If you know anyone who smokes, please ask them to stop' so I try to encourage smokers to quit- because cancer sucks and people deserve to be healthy and to live without it.

Not trying to sound condescending or patronizing, but really proud of you guys!

I quit when they went to 2.50 a pack, as a 2-3 pack a day guy 7 dollars was way to much to set light to each day!

Went down to the 7/11 and got a handle full of slurpee straws, cut them to size and kept them in an old pack of smokes, when I was nicking out would take one out and pretend to light it up, visualised the lighter, that lovely long first draw and then the exhalation.

Quit first time never looked back.

Well it appears i got through the morning, two smoke breaks and my usual 2 smokes during lunch lol. I actually don't feel bad at all. A bit wierd, but not bad.

I'm still not finished the Allen Carr book so it looks like I may have to finish off some smokes here, lol. It appears I should be able to do this!

Thanks for that, I just came, and started smoking again after 20 yr's

Seriously, everyone quits, you have to decide when you want to quit...Pay now, or pay later, all depends how much you're willing to pay.

You never get your health back, it's a one way street.

Champix really works good.
