I honestly haven’t noticed much diving or embellishing from the Oilers. They definitely are relying on the PP though.

In fairness, a PP is an essential part of hockey.

f*** Vegas and f*** the league for once again turning a blind eye to a team committing blatant camp circumvention by hiding a player (Stone) on LTIR in order to make deadline additions (Barbashev, Blueger and Quick) only to have said LTIR'd player magically healthy and ready to play for game one of the playoffs.
Bunch of cheaters. No respect to that team. Even if they win this series they can rot in hell.
|
Saw that on the HF boards. If there's a team that shouldn't be ****'ing about LTIR hijinks for cap circumvention, it's the Coilers....

Yeah but when the Oilers do it, it's different.

Mike Smith and Duncan Keith suddenly disappearing from their books thanks to some imaginary LTIR?
Also paying for Evander Kane with their soul, rather than salary cap

Keith just up and retired for some reason, giving up millions. And the league lets Kane and SJ just off the hook? One of them had to be wrong.

Duncan Keith’s salary was 1 million. He had made 74 million over his career. If the league was interested in helping the Oilers they would have allowed his cap credit to be applied.
If Keith and Smith waited till playoffs and then came back then I could see your point. Imagine thinking a couple of 40 year olds retiring is cap circumvention
Pretty sure SJS had to pay out Kane. Not sure why they didn’t get hit with a cap penalty. He was a free agent though. Not sure how the oilers are circumventing the cap there.
Oilers are icing a cap compliant team. The Knights are not

Wait, Smith retired? I missed that. I thought he just suddenly became unfit to play, even after playing right up until the end the season before.

Now do Keith’s salary cap hit. He obviously came over with a retirement deal.
SJ didn’t pay Kane $19M, that’s for sure. They settled privately, didn’t take a cap hit and he was cut loose to sign with the only team that could stand him.

Who cares what Keith’s cap hit was. You said he gave up millions to retire. He gave up just above league minimum in salary. His cap hit doesn’t equal his pay.
Anyone could have signed Kane. He was a free agent. That would be SJS cap circumventing.

Since when is $1.5M “just above league minimum”?

Don’t be dense. Everyone plays hurt in the playoffs.
I thought Tanev just needed surgery even after playing right up until the end of the season
If Tanev was 42 and had one year left on his contract no one would blame him one bit if he just went on LtIR for his obviously nagging shoulder injury instead of trying to grind it out for 82+ games.

Yeah sorry thought he made 1 mil. You’re so right that extra 500K is worth an 82 game grind when you’ve made 74 million already.
You sure proved your point

If he was on the Oilers, I would blame him. Oilers are no good and even if they do something that every other team might do, it's still no good. In fact, extra no good.

Bull####….. Smith real reason for being on LTIR never disclosed, being old is not a reason. Keith being hired as a development coach, I’m guessing for a min of $1MM and assuming he won’t be back next year, was clear cap circumvention.
The league directed Kane to the Oilers, that just happened. The Oilers are a complete scam.
