Neat. And this was when, 1998?

Still quite a bit underpaid. He should be making at least $12 per season.

Around then. So what? He's still Keith Tkachuk. He won't likely advise Matt to bust rules but he will tell him to fight for every cent.

Did this one get posted yet?

Every once in a while you have to remind yourself that it’s Jan. 10 and the Oilers aren’t dead yet, which in itself is an accomplishment.

Not being eliminated before US thanksgiving or Christmas is now an accomplishment.

Chiarelli looked like was might be putting his sorry season of generally managing the Oilers out of the playoffs last year behind him.

Chiarelli has largely left himself as a lame duck general manager.

Chiarelli’s latest expenditures with the final few dollar available from his mismanaged salary cap — Brandon Manning and Alex Petrovic — have yet to show they are any less incompetent than anybody else back there.

Ok, but we were:
A) Talking about Gaudreau
B) Talking about how you can't re-negotiate a contract in the current CBA.

We were talking about Tkachuk in the big picture. And my point about the CBA is that his dad was that you couldn't sit out an existing contract under that old CBA, so he doesn't have a problem with hardball. And there won't be a discount.
That said, Treliving is the best contract negotiator I've seen with the Flames.

I agree Tkachuk will be a hard contract.
But as you said, Treliving's strength is RFA contracts. He's knocked it out of the park every single time essentially.

RNH is one of the very best players in the game? Only EDM fanboys or media hacks could possibly believe that. They are so silly up there.

Chiasson and his 21 points is “one of the better stories this season”?
Admittedly, it is one of the best OILER stories this season. The bar is pretty low in Edmonton.

HF Oilers fans becoming self-aware of how putrid and bandwagonish some of the Oilers journalists are. As pointed out about Terry Jones by a poster there:

JONES: He's baaaaack – Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli looking like the resident genius
Friday night at Rogers Place, almost everywhere you looked, the Edmonton Oilers general manager appeared to be the resident genius.
It was a night when all Chiarelli’s major moves combined together to create the storyline of a game and, indeed, the season to this point.
