just think of the impressive d depth they will have once they get back Russel and Klefbom. will be the envy of the league. every team will again want to trade their roster for this juggernaut.

That sounds like a GG special.

Chris Butler on waivers! Another glorious opportunity for the Oilers to improve their blueline.

Interestingly he would likely be the 4th best defenseman on that team right now...too bad three is no cap space...

Bob Stauffer hinting that Sekera has suffered a setback. Which saves the Oilers from having to find more the 3 million in cap space for him.
Personally I think they'll find a way to encourage him to pack it in.

They are in a rough place where they can’t take his cap hit, but he is a huge upgrade on what they have, but he still isn’t all that great of a player.
Either way they lose. Chiarelli really is next level incompetent

Giving up a goal immediately after scoring is a Glen Gulutzan staple. Last year was so frustrating.

It seems that the recent performance by the team and GM is mentally breaking Oilers fans. They can't process what is happening. From Reddit....
"I've been thinking about this and is it too crazy for Chia to be a fan of another team actively trying to make us worse? Hes lost value in every trade since being hired and he seems to have a plan despite making our team gradually more ass. It's like he drafted mcdavid and immediately started making a checklist on how to run him out of town."
"Is it possible he’s being paid under the table to run this team into the ground? Like is this that crazy of a theory? I just can’t see it as such a big deal where another organization has it in them to actually do this all over a sports team, let alone NHL."
Imagine having a GM or team that is so bad, that these are actually thoughts that start creeping into your head.
Happy New Year everyone!!

Looking at the standings this morning and I think there is a good chance the Coilers finish last in the West. These are the 4 teams beneath them:
Arizona
Chicago
LA
STL
All are playing decent hockey of late.
I am predicting the Oliers to finish last in the west.

Very standard in Canadian markets. Brad Treliving would be doing a press conference for two small trades in one day too.

Here's hoping that Bettman steps in and pulls the Oilers pingpong balls out of the tumbler at the draft and says that there's no way that they're going to ruin another good player.

"These Deals werent Knee-Jerk Reactions."
Words spoken by everyone immediately following knee-jerk reactions.
A truer press conference would likely have gone something more like this:
"We suck. These guys also suck. It seemed like a pretty good fit.
The fact of the matter is that we are so terrible that my plan is to consolidate all of the worst players and contracts in the NHL onto our roster so that the League has no choice but to save us.
We are the Edmonton Oilers. We are Too Big to Fail."

Honestly man, Chris Butler, for free off waivers and making League Minimum would actually have been a far more astute move than exchanging actual NHL assets for Brandon Freaking Manning.
When you have few to no assets, little to no cap space, these el cheapo waiver wire moves are the ones you're trying to hit out of the park.
Like Chiasson on a PTO. Nobody thought he'd produce as he did, and he likely wouldnt on any other team, but hes playing well for them right now and thats more than you can say about pretty much anyone not named McDavid.
Cheap to free is what you have to look for because these Doofus for Doofus trades arent appreciably moving the needle.
