Default Limewire shut down

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...wire-shut-down

Haven't used Limewire for years myself. This line gave me a chuckle, followed closely by a shaking-head-facepalm.

Quote:
US judge Kimba Wood ruled that record companies "have suffered – and will continue to suffer – irreparable harm from LimeWire's inducement of widespread infringement of their works", adding that the potential damages were "staggering".
So some suit working for the music industry will have to wait another year to buy that 150 foot yacht they've been eyeing. Woop-dee-doo.

The only people who are sad about this are malware, spyware and virus creators. Programs like limewire and bearshare are only used by people who don't know what the hell they are doing.

i have to admit that over the past year i have been buying my music via iTunes. I guess I figure that I obtained a lot of "free" music over the years, that my cost per tune on iTunes is about $0.60 per track.

also don't have to worry about viruses and all that other stuff.....

as an aside, i used to use KaZaa - anyone know if it is still working?

Glad to hear Limewire was shut down. What a festering ground for viruses.

I use Bittorrent to preview albums. I then purchase on iTunes or on physical CD per availability. If it's not good enough to buy it's not good enough to keep.

KaZaa? damn, I haven't thought about that in a long time . I would assume that they are just another variation of Limewire. More fake and virus ridden songs than actual content.

There was nothing worse than downloading a song that started off normal and 30 seconds in it turned into the most annoying and ear busting noise known to man.

Now all the morons and the people who exploit them will be coming to the file sharing method of your choice.

The worst for me is that I did use Limewire for a time, and now my IPOD on shuffle will occasionally make a funny beeping sound and reset my shuffle.

I've found myself getting most of my stuff of iTunes as well. Even started getting the TV show season passes.

Part of me is thankful because it was a cesspool of virus and trojans. The other part of me, who occasionally got paid to remove these viruses is a little bit annoyed.

I take offence to that! I partially only know what I'm doing some of the time.

It is easy to find other p2p sharing programs, this is not an answer to the problem.

People who mindlessly download things from Limewire are typically... mindless to some degree. With any luck they will resort to the next easiest option, which is iTunes, Amazon or some other legal option. Those who are smart enough to move to torrents are hopefully also smart enough to not click on that free 42kb exe file they just downloaded instead of a song/movie they were expecting...

Good news.

I guess the music industry can stop paying people to infect their songs.

I didn't know about this until 3 minutes before dinner when I received a frantic phone call from my somewhat computer illiterate buddy asking for a crash course in bit torrent.
