Enroth is the only one that I can think of as an NHL guy, I think the Preds have one they drafted in the 3rd or 4th round round a few years ago. Jusse Saros?

Enroth, Halak, Tim Thomas come to mind. Not many, that's for sure.

Edit: Theodore, Turco, Osgood as well

per Dreger Flames are after Matt O'Connor

http://www.tsn.ca/dreger-report-team...onnor-1.215858

Quote:
Fresh off winning the Beanpot tournament on Monday, Boston University goaltender Matt O'Connor has become a prime target for several NHL teams.
Sources tell TSN, as of Monday 14 NHL clubs have expressed interest in signing the 23 year old college free agent and as many as five teams are promising NHL playing time this season if O'Connor chooses to sign at the end of his college season.
Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary are all believed to be keenly interested in signing the the undrafted 6'5" goalie, while Buffalo and Phoenix are also considered to be contenders on the list of 14 as well.
O'Connor has met individually with a number of teams and will continue to do so before making a final decision.

O'Connor is scheduled to graduate this summer with a business degree.

Do we believe Dreger? Seems to me we don't have a need in goal with McDonald, Gillies. You can never have too many, but seriously at what point is the extra effort worth it and why would he wasn't too come here?

Yeah doesn't make sense to me. I would think having Ortio, Gillies and MacDonald must put the Flames in the top 5 in the league for goaltending prospects. Though I realize it's hard to predict goalies.

MacDonald and maybe Gillies are a year away from turning pro. If Ortio moves up we'll need a prospect or two in the AHL next season.

Gillies should be turning pro and then you can sign someone like Thiessen again and their good.

If he has no problems with being behind Miller, Lack, Markstrom and Demko... he should have no problems with the Flames system.

News1130 Sports @News1130Sports
Talked with Boston University goalie Matt O'Connor who has 14 NHL teams after him including the #Canucks.

News1130 Sports @News1130Sports
Despite Miller, Lack, Markstrom and Demko, O'Connor says the #Canucks are still in the mix for him.

News1130 Sports @News1130Sports
O’Connor says #Canucks regional scout in Boston Jonathan Bates has been great and meeting Trevor Linden in summer was amazing.

O'Connor on the #Canucks : " They have a great staff, it's a huge drawing point but it's going to be a decision made in the spring."

With Ortio out and us not backfilling that position yet, wonder if that would be a carrot to get him to sign? Understand ahl deadline is next week so that could change.

Tim Murray was on the radio last week bragging about how the Sabres were one of the few teams that could and would promise Matt O'Connor that he would start in NHL games if he signed with them.

Makes sense. They don't have any games to win and thus they can offer him the opportunity to burn the first year of his ELC. I'd put more money on Arizona thou... they can offer the same alongside a better state tax (and climate) to go with a noted defensive minded system and "name" goalie coach.

In addition to Sureloss' list, here's some more top prospects per SB Nation. Would be nice to pick up some talented D as we seem to be well stocked at F.

98. Derek Pratt, Defenseman, Connecticut(Free Agent)
The Northfield Mount Hermon alum has played in all but one game for Mike Cavanaugh's Huskies this winter. Described as a rink rat by his teammates, he's a student of the game who plays well in his own end and is very sound defensively. He plays a quiet but effective game. A free agent, he was coached by his dad, a BGSU alum, in prep school.

95. Drake Caggiula, Forward, North Dakota(Free Agent)
Caggiula isn't a big player, but certainly packs a punch. His relentless puck pursuit and willingness to initiate contact makes him a tenacious forechecker and a very effective defender. He's shown improved scoring touch over each of his three seasons at North Dakota, but his skating ability and tenacity is his ticket to the next level.

81. Brian Christie, Forward, Merrimack(Free Agent)
The junior forward has slipped a little bit in the second half, but has really come into his own in his junior season. The former No. 1 pick in the USHL Entry Draft, Christie has above average speed and has combined with Swedish center Hampus Gustafsson to form a nice possession line for Mark Dennehy's Warriors. He's got the ability to beat defensemen to the outside and get off quick shots. He still has yet to prove he can be a force in the slot or he'd be ranked higher. 10 goals so far this season is a nice progression after having just nine in his first two seasons.

78. Nick Saracino, Forward, Providence (Free Agent)
The St. Louis, Mo. native leads the Friars in scoring and has used his speed to his advantage. He does a good job of creating open space for himself by his separation ability and is gritty. He plays bigger than his size due to the nature of his game. He's been a very important piece for PC this season. When he registers a point, the Friars are 12-5-2 as opposed to 7-6-0 when he's held scoreless.

80. Dylan Margonari, Forward, Minnesota State (Free Agent)
Margonari has been plagued by injuries throughout his junior year, but when he's healthy, he's an incredibly effective center. Margonari wins a lot of puck battles and makes a lot of good defensive plays with his combination of size and speed. He's not as strong with the puck on his stick so he won't create much offense on his own, but he contributes offensively by being great at retrieving loose pucks, helping maintain possession, and using his speed to score goals.

66. Hampus Gustafsson, Forward, Merrimack (Free Agent)
The big Swedish import has been a strong presence on the ice for the Warriors this season. When he uses his size and strength to his advantage, he can really maintain puck possession and cycle down low. He is a power forward in the true sense. He doesn't have the hands or agility to weave in and out of traffic, but he can force his way right to the scoring areas. He's also been incredibly good on face-offs for Mark Dennehy's team.

68. Tom Parisi, Defense, Providence (Free Agent)
There might not be a better free agent defenseman in Hockey East than the Friar junior, who has been a steadying presence all season long for Nate Leaman's team. His +12 plus/minus leads all PC blue liners and he's chipped in three goals and added 10 assists. He's a heady player who is a fluid skater. Although he's not as flashy as some of the team's other defensemen, he keeps things simple and is solid in all three zones.

31. Troy Stecher, Defenseman, North Dakota(Free Agent)

Stecher added some muscle between his freshman and sophomore season and went from a good defenseman to one of the top available free agent targets in all of college hockey. His smooth, strong skating allows him to be a force on both ends of the ice. He missed a good chunk of the season with a leg injury, but has been fantastic when he's been healthy.

We are pretty much golden on our number of contracts. Even without Klimchuk, Bennett, Kanzig etc sliding we could sign a bunch of these guys. Bailey and O'Connor make the most sense, also a right handed Dman who is in the 21-23 y.o. range would probably consider signing with us

This is a guy who the Flames scouts will have seen when watching Gillies, wonder if they have interest? Defenceman who can skate, plays well in all zones

per Dreger, a team offered to move a goalie out at the trade deadline if O'Connor was willing to sign right away. O'Connor declined.

BU was the top team in HockeyEast and will be one of the top-ranked teams going into the NCAA Tournament. There's a very good chance they'll get to the Frozen Four, so O'Connor might not have a chance to play an NHL game once their season is over (the Frozen Four final is on April 11, which is the final day of the NHL season).

Ya it most likely is the Oilers. The Sabres pretty much did move both their goalies out

Troy Stecher won best defenseman in the league 2 years ago for the Penticton Vees in the BCHL, however Shane Hanna was a much better defenseman. Three years ago Stecher and Reilly (see original post) were D partners for the dominant Vee's team that won the national championship hence he got a lot more publicity for D man of the year award.

Stecher is pretty good, but I would have Mike Reilly and Shane Hanna ranked much higher than him.

I dont think Shane Hanna has been mentioned yet
