This is the cost of getting a premier goalie in free agency. For those that wish Treliving would just go out and get a good goalie long term, it’s not as easy as you think.
This is what it looks like when you fail to develop a goalie internally, and why I sincerely hope that Rittich can turn into a good starter. Our cap situation depends on it.
Tallon has to make this deal. No other internal options for years to come. Luongo broke down and Reiner sucks. Cost of doing business at a premium. Not thrilled about the cost, but I’m satisfied that they got him.

This will be the worst contract in the league in maybe two more years.

Nah, that one probably belongs to Skinner.

What do you think is more likely:
Skinner continues to score 30-40 goals through his late 20's playing alongside one of the best young centers in the league (whose own stats have only got better every year).
Or:
Bobrovsky delivers consistent Vezina-calibre play through his 30's on a new team that is historically mediocre.
I know what I'd bet on...

It's what top players will cost. If there wasn't a cap issues, the Flames would give him this contract. The guy is a top goalie in the league and his services went to the top bidder. How good would the Flames be with an elite goalie??

I like Bob and hes a good goalie and all, but thats insane.
They're going to have to be magicians at the draft to round out the rest of the team.

The only long term, high money goalie contract that hasn't backfired a bit belongs to brodeur imo, and bob is no brodeur.

Uh, have you seen the record of the Blue Jackets? Better over the last few seasons for sure, but historically mediocre as well.
There are some holes to fill for the Panthers, but there is a solid core of players that were undercut last year by bad defensive systems and below average goaltending. They replaced the poor defensive systems of Boughner with Quenneville. That alone should improve the team's defensive structure, so Bobrovsky doesn't have to be a Vezina player, just in the top half of the league, preferably top 10.
And yeah, I think last year is probably Skinner's career year. I think expecting 30 goals and 60-70 points is a fair expectation for him going forward, but much more than that on a regular basis is not very likely. Paying him like an elite forward is going to be a problem.

Well. Lundquist has been solid as well.

They can afford to because they managed to get Huberdeau and Barkov signed for $5.9 million each for the next 3-4 seasons. But yeah, in general they need to draft really well for the next few years.
