What is the play here? Does Broissoit have arbitration rights that he is hoping to capitalize on next year after another strong season? Does this deal take him to UFA? Does this short contract raise more questions about Winnipeg's goaltending than it answers?

A cheap NHL backup. Not someone you’d want to count on if your starter goes down long term.

Helleybuck is the starter, he's a good backup and Comrie isnt ready yet.

Not sure why not?

.925 and 2.52 are pretty impressive. Much more impressive than Rittich’s .911 and 2.61.

On a one year deal, this is about where Rittich should land. The big difference between the two being that Rittich played nearly double the games, but Brossoit has significantly stronger numbers.

Brossoit had a nice save percentage last year but he hadn’t done anything in the AHL or NHL to make me believe he is anything more than an NHL backup.

I wasn’t comparing him to Rittich..

He will be a UFA next July.

Yeah....this killed Rittichs negotiation position and negates the deal that the no goods up north handed out as a comparison. Absolute ceiling for Rittich should now be a 2 to 3 year deal: 1.5/2.5/3 = 2.333.

By this logic Brossoit is better than Carey Price.

Can't just compare numbers...I think the Jets cherry picked many of Brossoit's starts while Rittich certainly didn't get those games (Smith often got the bottom feeders, especially early)
