I really like the idea of Spartacus finally having an opponent who doesn't underestimate him. With all the bumblers he's faced so far, you'd be forgiven for wondering how the Roman Republic managed to ever get off the 7 hills.

Oh, and yet again - there were no stirrups back in those times! When the line "One man on a horse is worth 10 men on foot" was delivered, I just cringed; cavalry was used mainly for scouting and as auxiliaries because it was difficult to fight from a horse until stirrups were invented, exceptions like Alexander's Companions notwithstanding. A man on a horse might have cost as much as 10 men afoot, but didn't fight as effectively as those same 10 men, which is why they were mostly an afterthought in ancient armies.
I know I shouldn't expect a show which is basically soft-core violent porn to be particularly historically accurate, but it annoys me nevertheless.

This should be a hell of an ending to the series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Siler_River (caution, history spoilers)

I'm pretty sure it was for a shave. At least that's what I'm hoping it was.

Ok, I really need to figure this series out. I watched "Blood and Sand" I think? The one with Xena? Was that the first of the series? I need to find out where to find these and watch them all from the start. My g/f digs the smutt in it and I intend to encourage that behaviour.

It's a bit confusing.
First there was Blood & Sand, which introduced Spartacus and the school, and ended with the slave rebellion.
Then, the actor who played Spartacus got cancer, and they hoped he was going to recover, so they decided to make the prequel, Gods of the Arena. Gods of the Arena takes place in the same gladiator school and has many of the same characters as Blood & Sand except Spartacus himself.
Then, when it became clear the original Spartacus wasn't going to recover, they recast the role and made the first season of War of the Damned.
This is the second season of War of the Damned, and the fourth season overall.
Lucy Lawless was in all of the previous seasons.

So uh, I had only watched half of the episode when I replied to this, thinking you were talking about the bath scene. Let's just say.... dafuq what that?
Maybe it was so sort of bloodletting?

Pretty sure the chick was going down on him while cutting his inner thigh. He did say he picked up some odd pleasures in his time away from Rome.
I must say that red head from the city is damn fine. I hope we get to see her in action with Spartacus sooner rather than later (later being her horrible, bloody death).

Right you are. I thought each season had its own subtitle, but when I checked IMDB, it didn't show Vengeance.
According to this, we'll find out what was going with Caesar in episode 4: http://www.tvguide.com/News/Spartacu...r-1060247.aspx
There's also some talk that depending on the reaction to this season, Starz may give the green light to a Caesar-oriented spin-off.

She did go topless in Cabin the Woods so...
I knew I recognized her from somewhere, but couldn't quite figure it out so I imdb'd it. She is quite a looker.

Bit of a slower episode last night, but still really good. Could definitely do without the man-sex though.
I like the new characters they introduced.
