Icon30 Panthers sign Stralman (3 yrs, $5.5 mil AAV)

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Hearing that the Florida Panthers are the front-runners to land UFA D Anton Stralman today. Believe the contract being discussed is three years, $16.5 million total

That seems like a lot for Stralman.

Okay, this deal I like. The dollars are more or less okay, nothing to get excited about, but the term is exactly right.

At first glance, it does seem a lot for Stralman, but the term is shockingly accurate. I’m guessing that made a difference for the AAV. He has been pretty solid ever since the Flames lost him.

Great deal. Perfect #4 to play alongside Matheson. Has a lot of experience and defensive acumen. Can still play pretty well. Dollars and term are not exorbitant.

Ya I guess it seemed like lots but Florida had lots to spend anyway so could pay a premium to get someone who should be a good fit.

In the summer of 2009 — in exchange for Wayne Primeau and a second-round pick (Brandon Saad) — the Flames received Stralman, Colin Stuart and a seventh-round pick (Matt DeBlouw) from Toronto.

Has been on a downward trend. Term is definitely where it needs to be.

Stralman always seems to be on strong teams. Whether it was the Rangers or the Lightning, it seems like he has seen a lot of success.

He must have one of the highest career +/- in the NHL.

That's not a bad deal at all, maybe 1mil more than I'd like if it was the Flames, but the trade off of only being for 3 years is worth it

Dollars for player and term are all what they should be, Florida did well.
