Loubardias notes that Juuso wore 6 when he captained Team Finland at the World Juniors. Also wore 6 at Tri-Cities in the WHL, so it must mean something to him...

The love of the retros is on par with Oiler fans loving the 80s.

Time to move on. Or not. Must be an Alberta thing.

I wonder if Mackey will switch from #6 to his old college #2. I know it's FaF'd but so is #25, and Markstrom had no issue taking it. But for some reason #2 hasn't been worn in 16 years.

Darren McCarty also wore 25, so Markstrom isn't crossing some unwritten line.

There have been a ton of 25s since Joe.

David Moss is probably the most notable one, he scored 20 in that number. Igor Kravchuk wore it, too. Same with Steve Begin, Brandon Bollig, Freddie Hamilton, McCarty, Nick Shore, Sergei Krivokrasov, and a couple other guys.

The Flames gave out #2 a few times while MacInnis was still active with St Louis, most notably to Mike Commodore, Darryl Shannon and Jamie Allison. But it hasn't been worn since the 05 lockout.

Nothing to do with the 80s, just the fact that they look really good

Yup, totally just an Alberta thing.
  • Arizona - retro 3rd (wore during playoffs)
  • Buffalo - full retro 2020 (lines are slightly different)
  • Carolina - Whalers retro 3rd
  • Chicago - Same basic design for 65 years
  • Detroit - Same basic design for more than 80 years
  • Montreal - Same basic design for over a century
  • New Jersey - Switched from green to black accent colour nearly 30 years ago
  • NY Islanders - Full retro 2010
  • NY Rangers - Same basic design for almost a century (except for a couple of years in the 70s)
  • Ottawa - Full retro 2020
  • Philadelphia - Full retro 2010
  • Pittsburgh - Full retro 2016
  • St Louis - Retro 3rd
  • Washington - Retro 3rd (both white and red)
  • Winnipeg - Retro 3rd (both white and blue)

Plus, Boston and Toronto tweak their lines and/or logos every few years but haven't fundamentally changed their looks since their inceptions.

I find it interesting no one wears #2 for the Flames, yet many players have worn #25, despite both being Tier 2 Honors.

Seems players agree with me that #2 should be retired in the traditional sense.
