Default Matheson does his best "WWE" slam on Pettersson - Update: 2 game suspension

I hate the Canucks but damn... if someone did that to Johnny we would want blood. How many games do you think he gets? If any?

Thanks for the update sureLoss

Even though that's pretty dirty, he'll get none. Won't even get a fine.

Was the initial check illegal in any way? Looks fine, but then he finishes the check by slamming the guy into the ice.

Is there any precedence for this?

If someone did do that to Gaudreau, I'd expect there would be some sort of response by the team instead of the whole team collectively sticking their heads in the sand.

Welcome to the NHL. Unfortunate play but the kid is weak and got manhandled. Not nearly as dirty as comments make it out to be. This is vintage Regher type D.

What Flames team have you been watching? Do you have interdimensional cable?

I heard Elliott on the 2nd Intermission saying that the DOPS is going to be looking into it, FWIW

Did they cut to a shot of his parents?

It's sad but the nhl is heading to be a soft arse league. Based on the online reaction i was expecting something way worse than that. Heck, the uncalled boarding on Andersson was way more illegal than this.

If this happened in a playoff game, it would be a complete non story (remember mason Raymond getting his back broken due to the amount of sheer force he got drilled into the boards with).

Really curious how the league reacts to this.

Hate it. Probably not a suspension but a 100% unnecessary move.

The initial hit is fine. It's the body slam afterward that isn't okay

Dont see anything illegal there. But Canucks not coming in to defend him is sad.

This is what should have been done after the Dube hit in Van.

And exactly the type of the stuff that should be eliminated
At that point there was no point to it
How would you be reacting is that was Johnny being thrown to the ice?

Especially after they made a big stink out of sticking up for themselves after they lost Boeser last year. Isn't this exactly what Roussel was brought in for? Let me guess "Oh we play them again in xxxxx weeks/months" and then nothing happens

Seems like obvious intent to injure. Clear pause between the initial hit and the throw. Was a good hit, doesn't need to drop the kid on his head like that.

Soft arse league? Why does he need to do that?
Yeah awesome play! Love seeing concussions! That’s hockey! Yay head trauma!

This.

You can have hard nosed hockey without people getting seriously hurt just for the sake of it. And I say this as someone that still loves fighting and big hits. There's a line. This crossed it
