Sportsnet - Flames have discussed taking on Bernier's contract
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/c...iers-contract/
According to this sportsnet article and Francis. BT and Burke were at the Leafs-Ligtning game to scout Bernier and other players. Have had discussions with Leafs about taking on Bernier.
It's been talked about in the Bernier demotion thread, but now there is confirmation of Flames interest in the goaltender.
It's very possible this move happens when Reimer returns if the Flames are indeed interested.
Would the leafs take a goaltender going the other way (Hiller?), because surely the Flames don't want to carry 3 at the NHL level again.

I'm on the fence. I think Raanta will be a better goalie and could be had for free possibly this summer. If we take his contract we have to send an equally bad one back.

I'd rather wait till the deadline or the summer since I don't love Bernier... but at the same time, I'd hate to see the Flames stuck with Ramo and Hiller again, or overpay at FA time.
Good think I'm not the GM.

makes me wonder if we will ever have a stable goaltending situation .
not having a proven goalie since Kipper sure has made things interesting and rectally discomforting at the same time.
get it sorted out Brad.

Right now a shooter tutor is a better option than Jonas. Wouldn't hate having Bernier over him; think he (Bernier) just needs some consecutive games and a change of scenery.

As long as one of Hiller or Ramo goes the other way (ideally Hiller) I support this.

Okay so... We trade Hiller for him. Ramo continues winning games. How do you give Bernier the starts to try and find his game ? Or is it worth just having him back up Ramo and let him try and take the spot if Ramo faulters.

Almost any other goalie will do. If they can grab Bernier, awesome. Hope it happens sooner than later.

That's gotta be the scenario. If Berner looks better in practices, you give him a start. If not, you ride Ramo. Berner can't be any worse than Hiller.

If they could get Bernier then he'd be backing up Ramo right now but would play at least one of the back to back games or if Ramo falters, they could put Bernier in. I think it would be worth it to have someone capable as a backup. Whenever Hiller is in net, you're never sure if you're going to get the guy who battled through a flu and won a game or the guy who let in a bunch of soft goals to lose the game.
Bernier has a lot more potential too.

I totally support this, because I still see a lot of potential in Bernier. I'd be ecstatic if Hiller and/or Raymond go back the other way.
Heck, do a Raymond for Bernier, and send Hiller down to the AHL.

I simply don't see how this happens without Ramo or Hiller going the other way.

Bernier, a former first round draft pick, is a 27 year old goaltender with elite level potential. He has for some reason lost his mojo thus year with the Leafs. If we could get Bernier straight up for Hiller ( plus maybe a 5 or 6 round draft pick) I would do that deal. A change of scenery may be just the ticket for Bernier - and has the track record to make this a worthwhile risk. Will be interesting to see what move Treliving makes to address the Flames goaltending situation.

This would make sense as they have to make room for Stamkos!

If they waive Hiller (or Ramo for that matter) why not?
For me, they might want to trade their goalie coach as well. Sigalet isn't getting the job done.

Are the Flames that close to the cap? Sorry, I wasn't able to check, but I thought Bernier was only about $1.5M more than Raymond. So Flames have less than that in cap space?
