Zadarov Hearing - Update: No suspension
https://twitter.com/user/status/1525500950798024704
This league is an absolute pile of garbage.
Benn gets fined twice for poking out eye balls on purpose with his stick and double slew foots.

It took frame by frame analysis to see that he hit his head a micro split second before his chest. Not a targeted action, not did he adjust to go for the head or was it a reaction or retaliation. Nor defenseless position or along the boards.
At most the refs missed a check to the head call but in real time it doesn't look like that. Does every check to the head call, again, this could be called that only if they watched frame by frame by frame of a replay, get a hearing?
Zadorov is also 4 to 5 inches taller then the guy.

I'm sad that Z won't get to square up with Benn tomorrow.

Doubtful this would happen in a game 7. Maybe in next regular season when the stakes are not as high.

Whats the minimum he can get with a hearing?
In my opinion there was zero intent other than a big hit. The Stars player put himself in a vulnerable position.
But at the end of the his head was hit and I'd I was a betting man, he gets a game.
Missing 2 of their starting Dmen? Ugh.

Even though his hit pales compared to Nurse's headbut he's going to get a game. This is not ideal if Tanev is can't play tomorrow.

Maybe the Stars smell blood and open up
IMO, flames win if they open up. Assuming Flames showing up of course

It’s a game suspension I think and deserved. Doesn’t erase the fact that Ben should also have been given a game. I never complain about refs but I can’t believe the impact they are having on so many series. Toronto should be done with TB. I don’t get it.

Not deserving of a suspension. I hate head hits, but I don't think there was any intent to go for the head there.

I mean, if it weren't Z I'd probably agree a hearing is worthwhile, but it certainly wasn't malicious or anything. Nurse's headbutt was 50x worse and only got a game.
But I assume a hearing right now means a game. Cappy with Tanev also out

This is unfortunate. Any word on Tanev's status? I'd hate to go to Game 7 with only 5 regular D available. 4 if you don't count Stone...but he's stepped in multiple times this season without missing a beat. Him being our #5 doesn't concern me. It's who our #6 might be if Tanev can't go.

I thought Zadorov was an impactful player last night and was really starting to flex his muscle. Really brutal if he can’t play tomorrow (which a hearing basically confirms)

We are lucky that Stone has been so good.
Do you go bring up Mackey / Valimaki and plug them in then?

I don’t believe so. It means they can issue a fine of more than $5,000, or suspend.

Just a freaking joke compared to what has gone unpunished this round. If Tanev is out, this is a disaster. Let's hope it galvanizes the Flames and they can make it through the game.
I am going to suggest Z Is suspended for two games. Why? Because that is where the wheel falls.
Thank heavens Darryl is at the controls.

Depends on whether Tanev is out or not. If Tanev can play they likely just go with 6D. And knowing Sutter, Ritchie will slot in.

Not really all that surprised, but in no way is that anything else than a hockey play. There was no launch, no targeting and no change of position to hit the head.
The game is fast and its unreasonable to expect players to make minute adjustments to their body positions to avoid the head at that speed.
In the end, I believe it is only a matter of time before "hitting" is out of the game. It may not be mandated, but it will be too risky to do it.
There is no doubt that the game is changing. With the Oilers pushing the diving, powerplay narrative and the league pushing this headshot narrative without considering the context, it's only a matter of time until the league is simply a glorified, non contact, all star game.

So remind me why didn't Namestnikov get a hearing for the exact same thing on Johnny Gaudreau? Like, how are the plays any different?
To add, Zadorov wasn't even assessed a penalty, unlike Namestnikov.
