The main reason they want to trade OEL is to save money, so if they are saving a buttload of money despite retaining I'm sure they wouldn't mind doing it.
If they trade OEL right now, it saves them $54,000,000. If they retain $1,000,000 per year they'd still be saving $47,000,000 by trading him.

Duhatschek doesn't peddle in rumors. Any time he writes stuff like this it tends to be his own calculated speculations.

Did I miss part of the trade? Are the Coyote's throwing in 5 1sts or something? Those things all have value(maybe not Ryan nowadays with the contract), and OEL has huge negative value with that contract. He's not worth it today and it lasts until about 5 years after he's NHL worthy.

I don’t believe he’s looked at as having negative value. He is (or some think was) A true number one minute munching defenceman. I think all he needs is a change of scenery.
Plus we get to steal one more player Vancouver really wanted this off-season.

No. As much as a scoring winger would be great, I would rather trade mony than Johnny. I think we need a strong center more than anything

Are you banking on Gaudreau re-signing in that scenario?

True enough. I guess it would be a good move for the short term

I can see getting Laine in a trade for Gaudreau. What centre are you getting back for Monahan that’s even level with him?

How is trading our #1 center going to help us upgrade at center?

Imo he's not much better than a second line center

Point remains - who are you getting back that’s better?

What? You complain about johnnys work ethic off the ice but yet you want to trade him for someone who is even worse outside the rink?

His surgeries were in the offseason before 2018-19, in which he went 34-82 in 78 games.
Again, you think he’s not good enough and you want a better centre. So you suggest trading him. For who?

No way Winnipeg trades Laine for a player that won’t be there more than a year.
