That's not the only place where the NYI were beat to the punch...
The NYI made another questionable offseason move today, to round out an offseason that has left many fans in the Islander's fan base scratching their heads about the direction of the team.
For the second time this month the Islanders have re-acquired a player they traded away earlier this season, paying a premium to what they traded the player away for to start with earlier in the offseason.
On April 19th the NYI traded Cam Atkinson to Buffalo:
Atkinson (71 OV)
for
Eakin (65 OV)
Chiasson (65 OV)
$1M Cheese
Shortly after the NYI traded Chiasson and a 2021 5th back to Buffalo for a 2021 4th.
And then today the Islanders traded Tyson Barrie (67 OV) and promising youngster Kevin Lebanc (67 OV) in their attempts to reacquire Cam Atkinson again.
For the Islanders this gives them a top 6 forward that does improve their forward group, but it just raises the question of why the Islanders traded Atkinson away for such a poor return to start with.
For the Buffalo Sabres the frequent trades with the Islanders have paid dividends, as in the end Buffalo turned Cody Eakin, $1M cheese, and a 4th into Tyson Barrie (67 OV), Kevin Lebanc (67 OV), and a 5th.
