Yeah that's true, but I wonder what the meaning of Lucic saying that - was that Lucic legitimately considering retirement? Or was that Lucic doing a PR job and trying to sell himself? The point he was trying to make was that the new coach was a great turning point for him, so it's true he might have no intention of retiring and might be hyping himself. Treliving's probably crossing his fingers like crazy hoping he retires..it was odd of Lucic to even reveal those thoughts on HNIC

Lucic was asked a question and answered it honestly. And he was also trying to put some spotlight on Ward and Dube. Remember: he was thinking about hanging it up before he started having fun playing with Dube and Ryan (and having a defined role on the team that he could do well within).
Byfuglien walked away from $14 million so you never know I guess.
It’s easy to walk away from $14M when you have Buff’s career earnings already in hand, and knowing that $14M is probably closer to $5-7M after taxes and agents etc.

Lucic has made over 40M...his actual salary next season is 1M

They have painted themselves into a corner. They got a lot of players on team friendly deals due to the 0% state income tax in Florida. So I would think getting some guys to waive a NTC will not be easy. Shedding the likes of Johnson, McDonaugh, and Palat I'm sure is what they prefer to do. But those guys all have the power to stop any move. So it could be tricky for Tampa. We will see who let's them off the hook.

Milan plays a hard game, and has for a long time. I could see him packing it in and being a healthy dad. Flames salary issues aside, I just hope he retires with a healthy brain and back (whenever that is).

They can likely solve their problems without moving out two of their very best young players.
let's say they needed to move Vasky. They would likely trade him to, say Philly, for Carter, Sanheim and a 1st round pick (just an example) Get lots cheaper and get premium young players back. They wouldn't be trading him for a guy like Johnny who saves them very little.

Then he may well retire. His only job is to punch people, so a retirement isn’t an unavailable option. It’s not like his contract is full of recapture penalties either- it just sucks because it’s buyout proof.
I don't like Lucic's cap hit but i do feel like the roster would miss him. I personally found him to be a worthwhile addition, especially when he was clicking with Ryan-dube.

If it was possible to pull a "Stone" and sign him for 1M without penalty I would

I agree, I think he's really good in the locker room, and good for morale on the ice. If he didn't have that contract, I don't think anyone would complain about him.

I saw a rumour today that the New York Rangers are gearing up to make a big offer on Johnny. Sorry I couldn't find the tweet again but it was from one of those hockey rumours accounts.
They didn't have much details and their speculation on what it would take was way off but there might be something to the actual rumour itself.
What would it take from the Rangers to get Johnny?
