I lag bolted mine into a 2X6 on the top and the bottom, then lag bolted the 2X6s into the wall. That way I could get the bolts exaclty through the point where the wall mount wants them, and the 2X6s right onto the studs.

Okay, after way too much surfing, I can answer my own question.
1) Hankook Optima 4S. You should be able to get these anywhere that sells Hankook.
2) Yokohama W.Drive. Very expensive. Only sold in lower profiles.
3) Goodyear Tripletred. No severe weather logo, apparently.

The Tripletreds do have the mountain-snowflake / severe winter symbol.

EDIT: My bad, that's the SUV tire, the passenger tire version doesn't

I scored a damn good deal on some tires today - 4 Michelin Alpins (right size - 265-70-16) on the right rims... $400. I'm pretty happy about that. Can anyone give me a personal review of Michelin Alpins?

I have a new Toyota Rav4 four-wheel drive. Do I need winter tires?

Do you need? No. Is it much better and safer? Yes.
That said, my parents Rav4 which has factory tires drives pretty well without winter tires but I think it's worth it for the added comfort of safety.

You can usually get by the first year. Second year probably not.

Up cemetery hill, down cemetery hill, cars crashing all around me. If you don't have winter tires, they are night and day difference!!

I live in Lower Mount Royal and it was a gong show this morning. 14th Street SW was closed down south of 17th Ave SW. Saw tons of cars spinning their wheels and a bunch getting stuck. Surprise, surprise; they all had all-seasons.
Even though I have my Nokians, I decided to walk to work instead of risk getting stuck in traffic, or worse.
If you don't want to spend the time and money on winter tires, that's fine. But on days like today, leave your car with your crappy balding all-seasons at home.

What's the thread left on your tire's rule of thumb? specifically for all season 4x4 tires?

If it's worn down to the threads, it's definitely time for new ones.

Cant get them on until the 23rd (stupid rip-off KalTire) but I HIGHLY recommend these tires to anyone who drives a new Lancer or a car similar to the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer.
Cost me an arm and a leg last year during the tire shortage (had to go through the dealership) but it was well worth it.
$1300 (w/ rims that were too nice to be winter rims) right before Christmas.... ya great.

No real problems with my WRG2s. Meanwhile, the dunce behind me on Crowchild slipped and slided every time I braked.

Yeah, the real worry I have is someone plowing into me from behind...in a winter road condition kind of way, not a gay kind of way. There was one dude that was tailing me for a good 5 minutes.

Needless to say, I'm still shopping.

Try Crossfield Kal Tire. A few years ago I got these tires, and they ended up being the cheapest. Was worth the drive at the time.

By now you've probably already tested them , but i have had Pilot Alpins on my G6 for 3 years now, and very happy with them.
I do a lot of highway traveling so they were great, as they are one of the very best tires when it comes to cold weather stability on dry surface. They don't bite in quite as good on snow and ice while driving in the city, but i've never had a big problem.

Every tire has a wear tab that runs across the tread. It will be approximately 3/32nds of an inch from completely bald.
