Do you still get credits for "trading in" your used tires based on tread depth these days?

Got my new DMV2's put on my truck last Friday when the snow was absolutely going to town. Bit of a trial by fire on a new vehicle and new tires. Performance was incredible. Such a blast bombing around in the first snow of the season on winters in my first pickup. Winter will be a bit more tolerable this season.

In talking with a couple of tire companies, they recommend replacing all 4 tires, or at least 2 (rear) tires at minimal. My friend who is much more mechanically inclined than I am recommended replacing all four:
"having the front and back at different wear tread depth will be hard on the transfer case"
Appreciated thoughts on this, fine CPers...
Not surprisingly, low stock levels on tires these days, limiting available options.
Thanks

The type of AWD system makes a big difference. If you have a true centre diff setup, then it is better to not push the tread depth differences front to back too far. If it's a FWD based system like Haldex for example, the front to back difference doesn't matter much unless you're driving in slippery conditions a lot.
Tirerack will shave brand new tires to match. At least they used to.

Hi Tirerack, can you shave 45,000kms off those new tires to match please?

Decision help! (all-weather tires for Acura ZDX)
Nokian WGR4 ~$1500 (Kal-tire)
Goodyear Assurance Weather-ready $1360 (Fountain Tire include $120 rebate)
Have read a bunch on them, seems like the reviews swing back and forth, and I'm having trouble deciding.

Goodyear Assurance is a great tire. No experience with that particular Nokian, but Nokian in general can be hit or miss.
That's a real good price for the Goodyear's as well. Cheaper than online

I wouldn't give either of those places my business, give paramount tire a call and you won't regret it. (403) 701-4434, best prices and service in the city IMO and everyone who I've sent there agree's.
As for all weather tires the Toyo celsius is an awesome tire for all conditions

Have had both. Currently have the Goodyear's on a fwd car. I've put 60,000 km on them and they're still looking pretty good. They are better than all seasons in winter but definitely not winter tires. I think the nokians would be better on ice.

Currently have Toyo Celsius and like them, but they are out of stock everywhere. Paramount not showing any tires in stock online, but I've dropped them a message. Thanks!

For our MDX, I went with Kumho all weather tires.. Tire Rack had them rated fairly high and after one month of use, I like them. Quiet and decent traction after first dump of snow a few weeks ago. I have dedicated summer tires for May-Oct use and this is my first time using all weathers with SH-AWD system (used winter tires before). I guess I will find out more this weekend with more snow on the forecast.

You get instant 8% off plus $60 rebate. Shipping to Calgary was under $20 for all four and only took a week to deliver when I ordered them in late August. You can also choose to ship to your tire installer as well.

My current tires appear to be about 50% worn - not sure if that be in the tolerance allowed. Problem is Toyo Celsius tires are short across Canada (1 on the East Coast that would take a bit of time to get out here).

Has anyone ever used a mobile tire installation and balancing service? How did it go? Do they actually bring a proper computerized balancing machine in their trailer or do they use other methods?
I need to swap a set of tires on some rims and it seems convenient to not need to book an appointment at a shop and sit around drinking bad coffee. But I also can't stand tire shimmy at 110 so I want to make sure the job is done right.

Anyone happen to have experience with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and/or Pilot Sport A/S tires?
I'm currently looking to get some new tires for my car and it's been a while so am a bit out of the loop. This is not a daily driver, and all driving will be done during the summer/fall in typically nicer weather…however would prefer something that won’t completely turn to plastic in case a trip to the mountains results in some sketchy Alberta weather. I lean towards the AS for the just-in-case factor, but not sure if there is much performance degradation if the weather is fine (which will be 95% of driving). Also I probably won't get more than 1000kms on it per year, so tread life is less important than typical as chances are it will get old before it gets worn down.

I went with Nokian WGR4 to replace my all seasons, and last winter I didn't even swap to my winters.
Worked very well, no issues over the winter and thread is still good after a full year's use.
I plan to swap out to my winters this year though most likely. Last year we really didn't have much to drive to...

Well the days are getting shorter and we are clearly headed toward winter now rather than towards summer. We could see snow within 2 months...
