I'm looking for a Facebook Ad specialist. 2-5 years experience. Experienced in account, pixel, tag, and campaign setup. Well spoken and strategic is of course a must. Creative design not required, but conception is.

Some overlap with organic social media and other paid platforms is required.

Remote contract position.

I am looking to assess interest in a training program I am thinking of offering through my company Gradsports. It would be a hockey scouting / NCAA advisor program with a view to giving people the foundation to earn some supplemental income.

Fees would depend on what resources I would pull in for the program, and how many instruction hours would be included. All of that is to be determined (and part of what I would be interested to hear feedback on). That said, the model I am looking at would mean fees would for sure have to remain under $1,000 so the content of the course would be tied to that being the upper limit. I am leaning toward setting up something that would be done in full days over a weekend or spread over a few weekday evenings.

I would be building the programming in consultation with an NHL pro scout with a wealth of NCAA experience in the Eastern US (it would not just be me making it up).

I just thought before going too far into planning I would look for some feedback here on whether there would be demand for such a thing. And from a practical perspective, I would be inclined to put together a first-run of the program with a small group from a community like this before trying to offer it more broadly.

Separate from all that, I am also looking at potentially bringing on a couple of contract consultants to fulfill some different needs for my company. In part I am needing some additional bodies to be able to watch players and work on client recruitment. I am also considering bringing someone on as a part time family advisor to focus on client service of existing players / families. If there is potential interest in either type of contract work send me a PM for more details. No specific experience is required, but a background in either playing or coaching in elite minor or junior hockey would be an asset and preferred. Thanks.

If you're looking for a solid company to work for:

Canadian IT firm sets a bold goal of $70,000 minimum annual wage for all employees

F12.net Inc. (“F12”) announces it is implementing a $70,000 minimum annual salary for all employees by the end of 2022. F12’s goal is to attract and retain the best talent to offer business clients a superior technology service experience.

F12’s bold move to increase its minimum annual salary means that each employee will earn approximately ten percent more than the national median family income, reported in the 2019 Canadian Income Survey.

And unemployment still at 9% in September, it's probably higher though.

Posted this in the GG thread but thought I would ask here...

Do virtual interviews carry a lot of weight ?

I had one a few days ago and it went incredibly bad imo...

Talking to a camera answering generic questions about a technical role is weird.

Am I screwed ?

Were you just recording answers, or actually talking to an interview.

Because I've seen a rise in interviews where you're sent questions and answer them via interviews without interaction with a live person. I think its dumb.

Frankly I think that's stupid and awkward, but someone that's really good is going to be good with canned answers. But I know that some of the roles that I've recruited for does hold some weight to it, at the worst it can eliminate you, at the best it skews the gatekeeper interview.

I had to do one 2 years ago and one of the questions was around why I was fun to work with and give an idea of something you did spontaneously to improve moral in your team.

It was stupid. I didn't get another sniff of that job because I probably didn't come across as fun.

Question...

You see a position with a company being recruited by multiple agencies.

Its obviously the same as the description and duties are 99% similar in all the postings.

Do you apply with everyone or pick a recruiter and hope for the best ?

Apply with everyone, you don't know who is reading what.

But if multiple recruiters, for what you think is the same role, think you’re a good candidate make sure only one of them submits you. Getting submitted for the same role by two agencies was, and I think still is, a big black mark. It’s a black mark for the agency too so they should also want to avoid it.

Just make sure one of them actually submits you. Too often the first level recruiter you talk to is all gung-ho and thinks you’d be a great fit only to then have to pass you up to the account manager who has the actual say on who gets submitted. I’ve had this happen more than once and am now pretty direct early on asking who makes the final decision on submission, if they have reviewed my profile yet, and if they agree to submit me. The recruiter that is the most open and up front about this is typically the one I go with, though I’ve still been burned.

That's fair enough. I can talk from the perspective of a recruiter. Usually its pretty simple, the first person that submits you gets you exclusively in that role. That's how companies will look at it as well.

The question that you should be asking a recruiter is if they have a exclusivity agreement with the employer, because a lot of recruiters will dig for business by doing blind submissions and marketing of candidates to jobs that they don't have.

I went through this about a year ago...

They have to get your permission to submit don't they ?

I just need to keep track of each position so that I don't allow duplicate submissions.

Usually, some don't if you're in their database, they'll market you to clients and prospects.

Maybe it wasn't so bad after all...

I got a second interview request for next week.

Still online but at least I will be talking with real people this time.

FINALLY!
After 20 months of searching I finally got an offer. It is for a 1-year contract, so there is a chance I am back on the hunt late in 2022, but who knows, it could be extended.

A big THANK YOU to CaptainCrunch for help and advice (though I did not get any offers, I did get a lot of positive feedback on my resume design and cover letters.)

I am a little apprehensive about going back to work after almost 2 years off. Will I be able to get back in the groove of working? Can I still do the job? What's it like "out there" these days?

Of note - I applied to this job off a board, but it was a recruiting agency that made it happen. They must have moved it forward when I emailed them that I had seem the job posted again (by them and others) right after they told me they were putting my name forward.

The whole job search has been a bit surreal. Mostly confusion over not getting any replies to frustration at not getting any call backs after an initial conversation, to disappointment and despair at rejections (especially after two interviews and an assignment, which happened a couple of times).

Those still searching - Staying positive is the hardest, but try not to let the frustration overwhelm you. I sent each application with a smile (and each decline got the double bird!). I hope for the best.

I found CP really helpful. Thank you.

I have my first interview in 20 or so years today.

I am nervous as ####. I honestly don't' remember what being on this side of the table is like.
