I do think this month would be a great time to make a move that solidifies the roster. Flames have more chips than they have had in recent years so could make something happen.
Pieces I could see in play:
Entire Dube-Monahan-Pitlick line. Zadorov and Valimaki, multiple 2nds

Hey, why not. Load up!
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Manginapain - Backlund - Coleman
Forsberg - Monahan - Toffoli
Debrusk - Dube - Lucic
Hashtag losing my mind at the end of the work day.

Tarasenko is still the ultimate fit in a Calgary uniform. He brings everything that the team lacks, and is signed for one more season past this one. The chatter during the off-season was centered around Tkachuk, due to the St. Louis connection, but that is not the only way to go. I would consider loading up the team for a cup run, and dealing with the contract issues after the parade. Unlike many, I like Monahan and the way that he is playing. St. Louis is short a centreman, and is in fact playing Marco Scandella as the fourth centre. They have Brandon Saad, that could play the second line RW instead of the third line LW. Monahan + 2022 2nd, and Bob's yer Uncle.
Phil the Thrill has lost a step in Arizona, but I think is instead just a product of Arizona. The Coyotes want futures, but the question is, how do you fit 6.8M into the Flames cap structure? Luckily the payment in real money to Phil is only 850K this year, so Arizona will eat 50% of the salary. To fit in Phil, that means Zadorov has to be going somewhere. Arizona can't really use him, but a third team may give up a late 2nd. Calgary has two players in the AHL that deserve an opportunity, but won't get much of one on the current build of the team. One or both of Phillips and Gawdin + that rogue Zad 2nd. This means Valimaki has to really be ready to play.
Personally I would like Kravtsov, but on a team that is 'going for it', I'm not sure if that is in the books.

Do you really think that the Blues would trade Tarasenko for Monny and a second round pick?

Toffoli makes so much sense it's crazy.
The fact that he's not a rental is also a big factor IMO.

Dvorak is the type of fast skating two way C that I could see excelling under Sutter as well.
Monahan + Dube + 1st for Dvorak + Toffoli?
Hate to mess around too much with a roster that's rolling, but those are two upgrades IMO.

In that article is mentioned that Tarasenko still actively wants out (do to the handling of his shoulder issues by Blues staff and management). That takes a bite out of his value, and assures that he is still on the block.
Monahan fills a very important need on a Blues club. He is also recovering from surgery, and only getting stronger. He doesn't have value on CP, but in the world he would garner a first pretty easily. So, a first and second for a player that wants out.
In short, yeah I think that.

Except Tarasenko is playing very well and teams would line up for him.
Monny is playing poorly, may never be the player he once was and carries a big cap hit. He might go unclaimed on waivers.
First round pick? I don’t think so.

Someone is going to have to explain to me how we would fit Toffoli under the cap and how this wouldn't affect re-signing the likes of Gaudreau and/or Mangiapane.

By not signing Coleman, who is 30 and on pace for 23 points in 82 games, in year one of a 6 year deal where he makes 4.9 mill per.
Anyways, I think Gourde might make more sense because the Flames are short on center depth if Monahan is gone.
If Monahan is traded and Lindholm is injured, the centers are Backlund, Richardson, then… maybe Dube?
My point is, if Monahan is traded, the Flames need someone who can play center coming back.

I really hope they don’t give up Dube but for this deal I would be all for it. I even say add another 2nd to get that done. For the next 2 years the Flames would have Lindholm, Dvorak, and Toffoli all signed under $5M per.
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Dvorak-Toffoli
Coleman-Backlund-Pitlick
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis

Worry about that in the off season. Shoot for winning the cup this season. Catch the success and ride the wave

With Valimaki down, they are now banking about $1.5M in cap space. By the deadline, they will have more than enough room to add Toffoli (assuming nothing else changes)

I showed in the Debrusk thread that we can fit toffoli in today if we go with a 21 player roster (7 d but only 12 f) and include pitlick in the trade. Definitely will be able to do 22 player roster with him by the deadline.
Edit: Voila:
