Didn’t want to start a new thread, so hopefully this gets seen. I’m considering updating my iOS on my iPhone 6S, but am worried about losing one of the apps I use regularly. I hadn’t updated my apps in a while, so most were overdue. However when I last hit ‘update all’, one of the apps would not update and said it was no longer available. I looked into it and now it is a subscription-based app as opposed to the free version I have. I would hate to lose it, so I’m hesitant to update the OS. Does anyone know with certainty if updating will cost me this app?

As far as the watches, I’ve had my series 3 since February and overall quite like it. I didn’t get the LTE version and I don’t think I’ve ever wished I had it. My phone is always around, in which case you can still text and make calls with the watch anyway via Bluetooth to the phone.
I guess the LTE would be good for someone who frequently wants to have the watch but not the phone with them.

You could check the reviews of the app and see what people have said in the App Store. If it was a popular app, there is probably talk. I don’t know if it’s still possible to backup apps anymore? You used to be able to. You used to be able to keep an actual copies of them as part of your backup.
But anyway, the third party apps aren’t updated when you do an iOS update, but it’s possible that something in iOS 12 might cause the app to not operate properly, so it’s still a risk.

It's called Webull - it's an app for tracking stocks in real time.

Looks like the app is still available. But iOS doesn’t do anything to installed apps.

Yeah the risk is that the app becomes completely incompatible with an OS update. That happened with an audiobook player app that I liked. Every time I launched it it'd warn me that the app needed an update, and I think with iOS 10 it just stopped working entirely.

Anyone upgrade to iOS12 with an iPhone 6? To be fair, I have been pleased with how well my phone has performed despite being past its prime. But is this the iOS update that makes it useless?
It seems that recent updates been kinder to older phones than back in the iOS 4 era, for example. But maybe that's just my perception.

I updated my 6s and I’ve seen a performance improvement.

This app seems to be pretty popular (4.7 rating on the App Store) so I wouldn’t be concerned.

I've updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 12, and have found it to be slightly quicker.
Ktrain- even if you are on iOS 11 now, once that app gets to a certain age without any updates, your phone will disable it. And when you get your new phone you will be forced onto iOS 12 anyway.
The biggest thing for me for iOS 12- now Google Maps works with Apple Car Play.

Now I know you only look at Avatars and you don't look that closely.

Haha, that was awesome.
Soccer Physics was one of my favourite games. Just janky as all hell (as a feature, not a flaw). You just jump and your character would flail his limbs and body about, trying to knock a soccer ball into a net past other flailing bodies. It was magnificent. The developer never updated it for iOS 11 and I lost it. Such a loss.
I've been doing some looking to see if it's safe to update my SE, and the general consensus is that it actually improves it. Like Jimmy Stang says, since the iPhone 4/4S era, updating the phones has been very impressive.

I updated my 6S and it definitely feels "zippier". Super scientific.

Good to hear, BsFanInCGY.
I like the new battery stats, and that you can use screen control for remote devices or at least keep track of everything remotely. Only downside is it looks like the children’s iPads need to be updated with iOS12 too.

I ran it through Geekbench before and after the update and it definitively improved.
So much different from the developer preview of I think iOS 3 or 4 when it was great up until the beta before the GM and everything went to crap.

I've upgraded my SE (similar guts to KTrain's 6S) and have also had no issues. That is a far cry from the days of the iPhone 4/4S when a new update could cripple you for a good long while. Even last year with iOS 11 I felt things got a bit slower for a few months before they worked the kinks out. This is really impressive so far.
