I hope Tkachuk’s perceived value around the league stays at ‘elite’ so he can be flipped before the deadline for a haul of some sort. I don’t think he’s bad, but isn’t driving play or finishing plays as well as his linemates. Takes more penalties, draws more questionable penalties, passes are off, and regularly chooses to play the puck back when there are opportunities to go forward (sometimes leading to bad turnovers). Not worth his $9M qualifying offer.
Even if the Flames are looking strong for a playoff run I hope Tre is all business regarding Tkachuk.

The Flames aren't moving Tkachuk at the deadline.
I do think they move him in the summer though.

Yes, that would be ideal to have him for the playoffs AND maximize his value in a trade in the off-season. My bad.

He draws far more than he takes...period.
Qualifying it just makes you sound like you have an agenda

Of course Tkachuk draws more than he takes, he’s the league leader in drawn penalties since he entered the league. But if you did a poll league wide of players he probably has a reputation for embellishment, which I don’t think aligns with Sutter or most ‘leaders’ within the NHL. As a fan I’m embarrassed if my captain or assistants are divers (like Corey Perry).
Agenda? Just my opinions Sherlock.

Problem is that Tkachuk draws penalties when he plays hockey, and takes penalties when he gets away from it.

Well then it's a good thing he plays for the Flames instead of the Stampeders.

This homestand has been interesting for team stats. After the five game road trip the Flames had good shot volume, but they didn't have dominant underlying numbers when it came to chance splits etc.
SuperMatt (I think) aptly pointed out that the Flames were dominant if you filter out time when they were way up.
I hate slicing and dicing data to find the answer I want, so it's interesting to look at the very same unfiltered team stats after having to scratch and claw for overtime points (and two blow outs) on this homestand.
Flames 5 on 5
CF% 2nd
SF% 3rd
SCF% 1st
HDCF% 10th
xGF% 7th
In all situations ...
CF% 2nd
SF% 2nd
SCF% 1st
HDCF% 3rd
xGF% 2nd
This heater isn't being done with bounces. Legitimately a very good hockey team.

Analytics wont show, as mentioned in the PGT thread, the energy boosts guys, especially like Tkachuk who is very reactionary player, and the team in general, get from a engaged crowd behind them and the how it affects their play, team play and the underlying analytics behind it.
At the game last night, and near the end of the second (after the first round of Fox you suck chants had occurred) Tkachuk was buzzing around Fox well behind the play, one later bump after Fox got rid of the puck, 5 seconds later another one, and 4 second later another “fake” hit, knowing fans eyes are on Fox. Of course Tkachuk is a bit of a dick in general, but that sequence doesn’t happen if not encouraged by the fans and that gets MT into the game and energy channels in the right direction.
Overall that game may be a lot closer in the end if it was 1-1, and the analytics for many aspects of that game wouldve looked a lot different, but with the disallowed goal and the fans at the Dome charged up even more so because it negated Fox’s antics, it tipped the vibe from that game on its head. The Flames picked it up, fed by fan energy, the Rags capitulated, and thus statistically turned everything too.

Gaudreau has a primary point on every single goal that's been scored at evens with him on the ice
not sure what it means but it's neat
and Kylington has point on 7 of the 8 goals scored while he's been on the ice

I gotta say, I figured it would have to be a group effort to replace Gio and to bring offense from the back end, and it has for the most part. But if I had to guess which young Dman would step up the most out of Hanifin, Andersson, Valimaki and Kylington, OK would have been my last choice.
Good on him.

It will be interesting to see how OK holds up as the season wears on and games get harder....
