The Calgary Flames Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Dome

Not a creature was stirring, not even Gaudreau.

The banners still hang from the rafters with care,

In hopes another Lord Stanley soon will be there.



The players with COVID all snug in their beds,

While visions of Ws dance through coach Sutter’s head.

Treleving in his office assessing the salary cap,

A four-game losing streak the Flames are looking to snap.



Mangiapane is dreaming of some more goals at home,

Lucic content with his seven, thanks to the five-hole.

The Swedes are all bummed because of the Olympic dismissal,

The teams recent achievements bordering on abysmal.



The next Battle of Alberta just freshly called off,

50% capacity, and no food, for growing fears of a cough.

Uncertainty looms for the restart of the season,

But Calgary Flames faithful continue believing.



With Markstrom in net and a commitment to checking,

Fans know it’s the right direction this team is heading.

Tkachuk’s champing at the bit to get his pesky play going,

With careful attention to avoid the ref’s whistle blowing.



Now Coleman! Now Backlund! Now Lewis and Dube!

On Lindholm! On Pitlick! On Richardson and Monny!

To the top of the Pacific, to the top of the West,

The Calgary Flames will be ready to continue their quest.

Dions version Twas The Night Before Christmas


Twas the night before Christmas and inside the Dome,
Noone was there as the league sent them home.
Boosters were taken with the greatest of care,
Players hoping a restart soon would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in thier beds,
While nightmares of Omicron played in their heads.
Sutter was fussing as he tossed in his bed,
What happens after Christmas played in his head.

When out in the press there arose such a clatter,
I jumped to CP to see what was the matter.
Murray Edwards the grinch pulled the plug on the deal,
Fans were wondering out saying this news is surreal.

Another year later and things are much brighter,
Respect is coming in from many a league writer.
Backup Vldar came in with something to prove,
Wins and shutouts soon made Sutter approve.

With a grey haired old coach, so colorful and livid,
Players knew in a moment his comments would be vivid.
More rapid than Cheetas, his comments they came,
And he whistled and shouted and cursed us by name

Skate Johnny! Go,Kylington! Darryl Sutter would shout!
On Coleman! On Lucic! This team would grind out!
To the end of the ice! They hustled with speed!
To the corner! To the net! That's how you succeed!

The clean shaven ice was glistening like gold,
Watching Kylington play was a sight to behold.
He came out of nowhere the writers exclaim,
Oliver was happy playing defence for the Flames.

Sutter was smiling, as he finished up his work,
The wins are a mounting he mused with a smirk!
Sutter was quite happy to explain the teams rise,
Markstron and Vldar was the teams big surpise.

He spoke not a word as he skated out on the ice,
Shouting to win in this league takes great sacrifice.
During the practice he saw chemistry growing,
After the games he said progress was showing.

Omicron oh Omicron is a players worst dream,
Wave after wave makes a player wanna scream.
Anagram Omicron and you get the word moronic
An end to this madness would be just the right tonic.

He was slim and quite small, a pint sized type player,
D men would cringe , as thier nerves would get frayer.
With a move to the left, then a move to the right,
Around he would go, flicking on the goal light.

Down on the ice surface Flames players were skating,
Crashing and banging till the boards started shaking.
You could hear players saying in the glistening Dome light,
Merry Christmas Flames fans and to all a good night!
