Assuming they still have it in stock, Openbox Calgary is advertising the 65" TCL 5-series for $579 with a 1 year warranty (which is what TCL gives to brand new units). That's normally a $1,000 television, and Rtings.com gives it a pretty decent score. The MIL has it in a 55" size in her master bedroom and I was pretty blown away when we were setting it up for her.
Woob, I think you might be pretty happy with this one if you haven't already bought something.

Given that our couch is 18-20 feet from our TV wall, I guess I need this one https://robbreport.com/gear/tvs/lg-d...tv-1234636088/ Time to start a gofundme I guess. I wonder how my wife would react to our entire living room wall being a tv?

Whatever happened to Vizio? They used to be the bread and butter TVs at Costco and seemed to be very popular. It seems they are no longer sold in Canada or the company is in trouble?

I believe they are no longer sold in Canada though no one can seem to figure out why.

Probably not worth the regulatory hassle seeing this market is a race to bottom.
Better to focus on US market share, than translate manuals

I have the last year models for both Sony and Hisense in the main floor and basement, and the Sony wins hands down. It has a much better processor which means far less less UI lag, and way better upscaling. With true 4K signals both TVs are pretty similar, but in 1080 or below Sony blows Hisense out of the water. It also has much better built-in speakers if you're not getting a soundbar. Also since you mention Plex, the Sony supports more audio codecs, so I can direct play my entire catalog (4K included). If you go with Hisense or TCL you'll be transcoding a lot more often

Is there a significant difference in 5 series vs 6 series TCLs?
I'm in the market for a new big TV. I want 75" but the 6 series is $2,000 and the 5 is $1400, so some considerable savings.

The MIL has three TCLs: the 4 series (50"), the 5 series (55") and the 6 series (65").
The jump from the 4 series to the 5 series was MASSIVE, I was blown away when we first set it up. So much so that I was actually underwhelmed when the 6 series arrived, I was expecting a bigger jump. Between the 5 and 6, they are so damn close, it's uncanny.
Direct comparison: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/comp...threshold=0.10
There are a few things the 6 does better, and a couple the 5 does better.
Honestly, for $600, I think I could be happy with the 5 series. Impressive set, not just for the money, but especially for the money.

Hi all,
I am looking for a 50" TV, I was interested in the TCL 6 Series but looks like it is just 55" and bigger. Reading TorqueDog's post above, it seems like the 5 series might a good option. Anyone have any advice, hoping to keep it under $1000, but could go a bit higher if it makes sense quality wise.

I have the 50" TCL 5 series, based on TD's advice. It's the kid's TV. Great TV, no complaints at all. Interface, picture quality, price, etc. We use it exclusively to stream (no cable sub) so good interface was important to me. Only minor quibble is that the remote that comes with the 6-series is better as it has built in voice command if you are that lazy to press buttons.
The hope is the get the 75" 6 series as Dad's TV upstairs. Hoping to snag it on sale at some point.
TD has never failed me when it comes to electronics advice.

I see the 65 inch series 4 is on sale for $499 on Amazon. Debating if I should pull the trigger.

Ah sh-t, I hope you didn't wait for us to chime in, because it's sold out now. The 4-series is a decent entry-level set and size for size, the value for money is way better than the competing Samsung TU7000.
Doesn't get very bright though, so keep that in mind if you care about HDR or using it in a bright room.

I debated and was told no by my wife.
Now I will patiently wait for the current tv to die.
