But seeing management part ways with so many bodies like Arnold, Agostino, and Shore (which at first, seemed like a bad idea to me) and replace them with veterans like Vey, Frattin, and Pribyl has really improved the team and even improved prospects such as Poirer, Klimchuck and Mangiapane. Most years I don't care for AHL vets taking quality ice time from promising prospects, but when I see guys like Jankowski, Mangiapane, Klimchuck and Poirer as productive leaders over Frattin and Lomberg, it tells me something is finally working.

The Flames organization needs this club to go deep this year. I can't remember the last time their farm deep has come close to a Calder Cup, and given that the Flames are always up against the cap, always spending more than they should on free agents, and are in need of players to put them in legit contention, they need these young players to take the next step and there's no bigger step than proving there's nothing else for them in the AHL. They do that by winning the division, conference, or Calder.
Could be worth pointing out that Vey is only 25 and Pribyl is actually younger than any of the other guys you listed as going in or out, at 23. Frattin is 28 but it's not like they brought in a bunch of ancient guys. Pribyl in particular has some potential, more so than Shore, Agostino or Arnold imo.

Pribyl is every bit as much of a prospect as Shinkaruk, Poirier, Klimchuk adn Jankowski.

Grouping him with Frattin is way off the mark IMO.

Yup, you can't call Pribyl a veteran to replace Arnold, Agostino, or Shore.

Pribyl is younger than the other 3.

I do agree that Treliving not qualifying all those RFAs last summer probably helped trim the fat on the farm and allow some of the more promsing prospects "shine" this season.

It was an intentional move by Treliving & Co.

Yes that was the Flames intent, but I didn't want to suggest that guys like Jankowski, Klimchuk, et. al. couldn't find their own way to stand out even if those other guys were back.

McCollum recalled by Heat.

Looks like his assignment to the ECHL may have only been a "conditioning" stint of sorts to get him some game time. He didn't do so well...
3.36 goals against average and a .875 save percentage in 3 games

With his recall the Thunder also made a trade to acquire a goalie.

So I guess they'll be forced to roll three goalies in the AHL then if they really want to expose McCollum then...

Sucks because he's not going to play a single game behind Rittich and Gillies.

Ah well, better the three headed goalie monster in California than Calgary.

Im pretty sure they dont have play McCollum at all in order to expose him. He already meets all requirements for exposure.

I don't see a problem here. McCollum is not on an ECL, so he has to agree to ECHL assignment. If he prefers being the #3 in Stockton to playing in Adirondack, then where's the harm? Who can blame him, the weather's a lot nicer there I imagine. Plus that ensures that McDonald gets a ton of games in Adirondack, so that works for the Flames too.

Last home game for a while today. Rittich is expected to start, as per Kisker.

No, they don't have to play him and I said he wouldn't play. But it's still a big spot in the locker room having that third goalie. There are only two nets.

Looks like it's 1-1 in the first. Eat Bread has the Heats goal.

Rasmus Andersson didn't get a point on Mangiapane's goal that made it 1-1 but he stood up Mitchell Heard at the blue line forcing the turnover that lead to the goal. Looks good.

AHL officiating is absolutely atrocious, it's a nonstop march to the penalty box for both teams.

Nedeljkovic gifts one to the Heat, Frattin from Mangiapane, 3-1!

edit: They added a secondary assist to Vey. 3 point night for him through 2.

Andersson takes a big (clean) hit, and Smith gets angry and beats the crap out of the Charlotte player. He'll go to the box for instigating so Charlotte to the PP.

Such a smart play there By Mangiapane eh? He could have easily tried to rush the wraparound but instead played it to calmly to Frattin.

So impressed by Rittich. What a find by Flames scouting department.

Keegan Lowe robs Frattin and bails out Nedeljkovic on a 2 on 1 with Mangiapane. Still 3-1. 13 minutes left.
