8 years?! My god Ken Holland is on fire this week. The term is ugly enough, I hope they overpaid hideously too.

Hyman might actually be a good fit on the McDrai line. The contract is a hilarious. But the actual player himself is pretty good.

Holy crap that term!

I really like Hyman right now but this is going to be horrendous before it's even half over

I wanted Hyman here, but not on a gross overpay.

This is a gross overpay.

Let Edmonton have him. Not a difference maker, and at that type of money and term, that's difference maker money.

5x5 would have been too much for me for Hyman. I just don’t get the love? Play driver, half ppg and it just seems like Frolik with a bunch of Leafs hype behind him.

Ken Holland has not been afraid of term. Max for Nuge and Hyman and he also went 7 years with his offer for Markstrom last offseason

Hyman does fit with McDrai, just like he fit with Matthews and Marner. Thing is, who cares? That line already scored a lot. And they sucked anyway. So now they’re paying Hyman a bunch of money to skate on the same line and collect points. Oiler fans will say “hey, look, Hyman got 2 assists” and think he was a great signing. But those two goals were getting scored anyway.

CF has the Oil with 11.2M in Cap space and they haven’t recorded Hyman or Smith yet. So now they have $4M to sign or replace Yamamoto, Kahun, Khaira, Barrie, and any extras like Chiasson, Ennis, Patrick Russell, Koekkok and Kulikov. Yamamoto’s gonna want over half that money. They can’t sign Barrie.

I think the contract will look good for two years, and then look terrible.

Even Lucic got 50 points his first year in Edmonton.

Man, that would've been ugly if we gave up an asset to go 8 years with Frolik

I think Klefbom is still counting against their cap so that is roughly another $4M

He is, but I think CF has him included. He’s listed as IR but not LTIR right now. They are still paying Lucic and Sekera a total of 2.25. I suppose they will end up having Neal as a $2M cap hit by buying him out. So they will free up $3.75 more. Maybe they also buy out Koskinen. That could save them another $3M.

I still think they buyout Kostkinen and/or Neal which increases the dead cap but also available cap

Is it too early for them to buyout Smith too?

Yeah, I remembered that was probably the plan and edited. But of course, they then need to at least add a backup unless they roll with Stalock. And with Smith in you’d better have a decent backup.

Oilers makin' all the moves!

And not one of them makes their team any better. 8 years for Hyman? Holy crap, haha. Never change, Oilers.

I like Hyman, really good player and the type of guy every team needs, but this is insanity.

Also signals to me that it's likely McDavid has management on notice that if the team isnt improved, drastically, this season he wants to move on.

Pure desperation to give out that term on a guy who lays his body on the line to be effective.

Yep. The problem with the Oilers isn’t that the top line needs to be better. The problem is once you get past the top three forwards, it’s a bunch of scrubs.
