Default The Athletic: Do the Flames have an elite defenceman in waiting in Adam Fox?

Then why not just say that? Why do you have to go so far over-the-top with an outlandish, farcical claim about Wideman and Russell being among the Flames' historically best defensemen?

Surely you know well enough that an article containing said coveted "Adam Fox News" is provided in the OP. It's not that difficult.

I know, I should have stated that I was expecting some riveting conversation around the article in relation to Adam Fox.

What one?
Circa 89-90 or 14-15?

To summarize the last page:

Adam Fox might track to be a defensemen in the mould of Dennis Wideman, but with a better skating stride. Numerous posters take offence to this because they can only remember 2015–17 vintage Wideman. Others are bewildered by disappointment that a third round pick could be as good as a NHL veteran with +800 games. One poster considers this the loftiest of praise as he has Wideman among the best Flames defensemen of all time.

In short: Adam Fox is very good.

Yeah, IIRC Suter and MacInnis only played together on the PP.

You recall incorrectly. They were a regular tandem quite a bit.

It seems pretty obvious even to a casual observer that the Flames played far better once they got Stone. They went 13-3 and clinched a playoff spot once Stone joined the team.

Just prior to Stone joining the Flames they went 8-9-2 with Gio and Hamilton being the "top 2 pairings in the league".

After the all star game with 30 games left Hamilton/Gio were great:

Gio played just under 23 minutes a game and Hamilton played 20 minutes a game.

Brodie played 23.5 minutes a game and led the Flames defense in scoring with 19 pts... and was +6

Engelland played 19 minutes a game and Stone 18.

Did the Flames have the best top-4? Gutzalan obviously thought so playing Brodie - Engelland/Stone as much as the top pairing in the league.

maybe best top-5?

They were really good as I stated in a previous post but did not carry the Flames to the same degree as Russell/Wideman in 2015.
