I'd way rather trade for Marner than Duchene. Marner would reslly solidify the offense and give the flames a lot of attacking depth

The acquisition cost for Marner would be huge IMO. As in they don't want to move him. Probably something like Hamilton would get it done, but that would be dumb for the flames.

I'd be surprised if Brodie wasn't enough to get Marner out of Toronto just given the situation in Toronto. They're already loaded upfront and weaker on the backend. Brodie has a terrific contract for 3 more seasons.

That being said Calgary immediately becomes significantly weaker on the blue line. Are Kylington or Andersson prepared to step into a top 4 role on this team? Probably not quite but one of them may be pretty close.

It's definitely interesting to speculate what the Leafs plan on doing with one of their forwards.

I don't pay much attention to this thread. So excuse me if anyone has already proposed this. What about trying to make a trade for Patches out of MTL. MTL needs to blow it up and rebuild, and we could make a nice youth package up.

Bennett, Young D Prospect (Not Vali), Stajan + another pick/prospect

I don't know if this is close to enough, because of Bennetts play. However if MTL sees the potential in Bennett they may be intrigued. While the Flames get a piece we desperately need which is a sniper. It would also open a permanent spot for Janko.

Why not Kulak? I know Kulak is not ready for 20+ minutes a night, but there is no way in hell Brodie SHOULD be playing 25+ minutes a night.

Main reason he has been is because Bartkowski was not dependable enough to play 15 mins a night.

I think Kulak is ready for 15-20 mins a night alongside Hamonic.

Gio-Hamilton 25 mins/
Kulak-Hamonic 20mins/
Kylington-Stone 15mins/

Brodie or Bennett for Marner, Someone to AZ for Dvorak (Gillies or Rittich)

Edit: this GM stuff ain't so tough..

Dunno if they are unhappy to have him, but they are currently unhappy with him, esp. at even strength. He's been moved down the lineup.

Marner is on the 4th line in Toronto, which is what spawns rumours about his availability. It's not like he could be had for free, but toronto could look at trading one potential core peice for another.

Calgary is in the conversation because we have 4 core defencemen, which is exactly what toronto lacks. And four potential top 4 defencemen in the system.

I wouldn't trade gio or hamonic, or the farm pieces. That leaves hamilton and Brodie, who IMO both have more value than Marner. If calgary does decide to make a splash, it's from a position of strength.

Reilly -Zaitsev
Gardiner- Carrick
Hainsey- Borgman
Polak

Is their D. What would be better?

Reilly- Hamilton
Gardiner- Zaitsev
Hainsey - Carrick
Xtra Borgman RHD, Polak RHD
Or

Reilly - Zaitsev
Brodie - Carrick
Gardiner - Borgman
Hainsey - Polak

I think it's obviously the first set of D pairings has more promise
But the thought of losing Hamilton for Marner makes me want to puke.

A bonafide top pair Right Shot Dman who "skates like a deer" for a light weight but speedy Right winger who hasn't been able to solidify a top 6 spot on a team where spots are up for grabs?

No thanks all over trading Hamilton. I would do Brodie though in a heart beat.

How can Marner be on the 4th line, according to HF he is better than Gaudreau.

Brodie for Marner makes sense. Would seemingly be a great fit on our top line.

We have depth coming up on the Blueline with Fox, Valimaki, Andersson and Kylington. Might hurt us a bit this year on balance, but better for the future.

Next year:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Marner
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Ferland
Mangiapane/Dube-Lazar-Brouwer

Gio-Hamilton
Fox-Hamonic
Andersson-Stone

I agree. Marner is an absolute gamebreaker who would be amazing on our top line. Love TJ but I do this deal in a microsecond

If trade Hamilton before Brodie and he probably has more value to people outside Calgary

According to HF Bennett would not even crack the Marlies (yes, this is a thing that was actually said).

Reading that site you'd think the Leafs and Oilers were up and coming dynasties the likes of which we haven't seen since the 1970s Habs and 1990s Red Wings.

You could re-unite Gio-Brodie.

We have some depth to make such a move possible. Our scoring talent is lacking.

If the Flames are trading Hamilton for a forward, my main target would be Mackinnon+

Marner+ would be good as well depending on the plus

Haha this thread.

Marner is on the 4th line so that means the Leafs want to trade him. Nylander was on the 4th line for a while last season. It's what Babcock does.

The Leafs are not trading any of Matthews, Nylander, or Marner. You get players like that you don't let them go.
