I'd rather Seattle miss. I'm still a bit bitter about the playoffs and I've encountered too many irritating and cocky Mariners fans who just want to be dicks for no reason to hope they get in. Their Oilerish broadcasting team makes it easy to cheer against them too.

I actually noticed that last night when I was watching. Almost found the broadcasters unbearable. Weren't really calling the game just screaming like fans whenever something happened

They sounded like their dog died when Texas went up 2-0. Shulman might be more enthusiastic when the Jays score a run like any other broadcaster but atleast he tries to be professional when the other team scores.

Oh yeah without a doubt they get excited when the blue jays make a big play but will also make a great call if the opposing team makes a great play also. The Seattle guys last night were just tearing Chapman a new one when he was blowing his save. Like getting so excited that he couldn't find the zone. Was pretty unprofessional.

This seattle team is insanely lucky. Sub par pitching, overall average hitting and they just find ways to survive. Can F off anytime now

Heard that last weekend. When they fell behind 8-0 to the Rangers and then got a 2r HR, they were giddy about it now being a game all of a sudden. Game ended 11-2 or something.
Earlier this week when they tied it at 1 in the bottom of the 2nd it was announced with the fervor of a perfect game in the WS.
Annoying to say the least and reason enough to lose out. All the annoying guys from the Rangers are gone (Odour, Bannister etc)

I mean, we are watching the Mariners feed... they're probably don't know/don't care that it's broadcasted nationally here. If you watched other regional commentators, they are also big homers.

Clinching with a win tomorrow against the stupid Rays will be sweeter anyway.

Just like the NHL some are but not all. It's expected for them to get more excited for the home team but many still try and show some type of professionalism.
Michael Kay can get pretty annoying calling Yankees games but even he is less homerish than these guys.

Well yeah that was the conversation we were having about how regional broadcasters sound/act

Agreed. Fans were fantastic today. Give them an entertaining Saturday afternoon and then celebrate the clinch by your own efforts (I knocked on wood as I typed this).
Resting Gausman for game 1 would be huge so hopefully we clinch tomorrow, one way or another.

You do realize the Mariners team ERA is 3rd in MLB, BA against is 7th, and opponents WHIP is 3rd. The Jays are 2nd, 8th, and 7th. Offensively they're also very close to the Jay's in most categories except team batting average where they're lower and home runs where they're higher. Overall the two teams are very close. There is a reason why after 160 games there's only two wins separating these teams.

If the Jays win today and clinch a Wildcard, I really hope they arent shotgunning beer and champagne with ski goggles in the dressing room. Strangest thing they do that for clinching a playoff spot in baseball.
Maybe its an oldman yelling at the clouds thing but just stay focussed.

They will. Every team does it.
Had Seattle lost last night they would be doing it after today's game win or lose.

They have been playing almost every day for almost 6 months to achieve a goal.
I have zero issue with any team celebrating reaching that goal by blowing off some steam with spraying alcohol all over themselves and drinking some as well....its fun.
Sports are supposed to be fun.

Yeah it's super fun and I love that the camera crews get right in there so the fans can be a part of it. I think it's a throwback to the old days when winning the pennant actually meant something. The playoffs are a little more special in the MLB as it's the only league that still less than half the teams make it.

Tampa did it 3 days after clinching.
It would've been nice for the Jays to have wrapped it up earlier this week to get that out of the system.
Playoffs start Tuesday and first round is done Thursday at latest so that quick turnaround doesn't wait around for teams to get on track.
That said, a properly timed 14-10 record from today will win them the WS.
