A unique 2030 World Cup is set to be played in Europe and Africa with the surprising addition of South America in a deal to allow the men's soccer tournament to start with a 100th birthday celebration in Uruguay.

FIFA reached an agreement Wednesday between soccer's continental leaders to accept only one candidate for hosting the 2030 tournament, the sport's governing body said.

The Spain-Portugal bid grew to add Morocco this year and now also includes longtime bid rivals Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

A key lure of the unprecedented three-continent project will be opening in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo, where the Centenario Stadium hosted the inaugural 1930 World Cup final.
Quote:
The FIFA Council's acceptance of a unified 2030 candidacy still needs formal approval next year at a meeting of the 211 member federations. That should be just a formality.

The 48-team, 104-game tournament scheduled for June-July 2030 is expected to start with games in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay before the action moves to core host nations Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Africa. South America and Europe all hosts in one go.

Paves the way for Saudi 2034.

Quote:
The consensus reached by once-rival soccer continents also let FIFA fast-track the opening of the 2034 World Cup bidding contest, limited to member federations from Asia and Oceania.

Saudi Arabia has targeted the 2034 edition and Australia also is interested after successfully co-hosting the Women's World Cup this year with New Zealand. Either way, the 2034 tournament will almost certainly played in November and December -- like last year's World Cup in Qatar.

Accelerating the choice of a 2034 host to the end of next year will be widely seen as a victory for Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has built close ties to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

"We want to celebrate our football culture and share our country with the world," Yasser Al Misehal, the president of the Saudi soccer federation and a member of the FIFA Council, said in a government statement announcing its intention to bid.

This is going to be a disaster of monumental proportions.

I can just feel it.

Why? Qatar was one of the best world cups in recent memory.

Surprised China is not in on this, they would love to and could easily host a World Cup.

Maybe they will, but crossing off Africa, Europe and South America, after taking care of North America all in one shot is just lining FIFA up for big ol' Saudi bribe.

Asia/Australia are guaranteed 2034, so it'll probably be Saudi or China. Much as you'd bank on the Saudi bribe money getting it done, the appeal of that China market might actually be enough.

Relative to the Saudis and Qataris ability to bribe they are lower middle class at best.

No.

China just doesnt care.

The Middle East has all of a sudden decided to give a crap about 'How the World perceives them.'

Why do you think they're doing all this?

China doesnt give half a crap about what 'The World' thinks of them. They dont need or want 'Sportswashing.'

They're not poor, they just dont care.

China cares, they want to show a perfect society. And hosting a perfect World Cup will cement that, like they did with both Olympics.

It already begins. Its been one day.

Quote:
A day after Morocco and Spain were nominated as joint hosts of the 2030 World Cup -- along with Portugal -- there were signs of friction, with both countries laying claim to being the venue for the final.

Spain's Sports Minister Miquel Iceta on Thursday on Onda Cero radio said that although "you can't count your chickens before they hatch," he expected the final to be held in Spain.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/...ing-host-final

And then theres me...I assume the whole point of allowing the South Americans into the bid was to hold the final in Uruguay to commemorate the Centennial.

Who knows.

The U.K. and Ireland will host the 2028 European Championship, while Italy and Turkey will stage the 2032 edition of the tournament, UEFA announced on Tuesday.

By accepting a joint Italy-Turkey bid for Euro 2032 last week, and with Turkey withdrawing from the race for Euro 2028, the hosts for both tournaments had all but already been determined by European football's governing body.

Nice!

You should just be happy that Henderson even agrees to continue playing for England!

Its because of him that England dominated the mighty Aussies!
